Jamaica's PM and Opposition Leader at Grand Gala

Leader of the Opposition and the PM at the Grand Gala

The Grand Gala was the highlight of the Independence Celebrations on August 6. In general, it went well. There are some things that the organizers need to look at. For example, why did it take so long for the dignitaries to make their entrance? It is a show in living colours, so we could cut back on some of the narration. The narrators, and specifically the male narrator at the beginning of the show, could have added some colour during his narration. I became tired of him saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls."

It is great to see us highlighting the police force and our correctional officers. Next time we should highlight our vendors in the markets who have made a major contribution to our country over the years.

I believe that the time has come for Jamaica to have a new governor-general. We rarely hear from or see him these days. His impact on the nation is at the lowest level in the history of the country.

The Price To Pay For Getting Into The Stadium

The picture below gives a good picture of the state of our people in a country that became independent in 1962. This is where the corruption is. Look at the training that is given to that little infant who has been taught at that tender age how to break the rules on the day that we celebrate our independence.

  2. I agree with highlighting our vendors....we must also do a parish segment also....kingston is nit jamaica....big up also our yam farmers who have over achieved using basic farming tools and working on marginal lands.....highlight their farm train and shacman truck...the donkey and the mule....on that note I must register my disappointment every year on the none inclusion of these two beast of burden in the in our national awards and medals...they have contributed more than many of these pretenders named this year

    1. Those farmers work under rough conditions, and they have to deal with praedial larceny. Kingston is definitely not Jamaica.

    2. No donkey, no yam,no farmers,no squatter,no Jewish input,no parish,no Chinese,No indian, segments included is a symptom of Kingston quasi colonial rule over Jamaica.
"Out of many one people" isn't that the motto.

We need to be Emancipated and demonstrate independence as offspring of the estimated 450,000 slaves who became squatters in 1838 year of Emancipation.

Ask the Gleaner records a Jewish Jamaican newspaper founded in 1834 same year as the a the abolition of slavery.

  3. The office of governors general is a continued scam on the people of jamaica since slavery....we must look also at the jdf......it's a remant of slavery that needs redressing....dem find the latest missing gun ova deh yet.. I was disappointed to see our chief of staff dressed in civilian clothes....and we should pay attention to the voter turn out from the jdf in the elections....

As a compassionate Austrian musician, serving Jamaica since 40 years, I wish to mention that unfortunately the show was not thought through carefully: it was a male dominated show! Three male singers got awarded, and aside that one female Gospel singer gave a very disappointing more screaming than singing performance, no other female singer/musician was featured!!! Also how millions were spent in those light effects...but no money set aside to hire a live big band which could have accompanied the performers and also filled those silent gaps with nice instrumental music 🎵

  5. I am in agreement with much of your take on the event. But most of all the GOVERNOR GENERAL. VERY POOR SHOWING. Majority of the population have never seen or heard this man.
