The PNP has been advocating for a reduction in the period of occupation of Government land for possible ownership through Adverse Possession legal proceedings, to be reduced from 60 years. This would allow individuals to be eligible during their lifetime.
Do they, in all honesty, believe that this would allow for orderly development and management of our natural resources? State-owned land needs to be reserved in the natural, unoccupied state for forest reserves, watershed areas, recreational and other ecological reasons.
Can you imagine the nightmare that would result from freeing up or making it easier for citizens to qualify to settle on Government land?
What would seem more practical is for there to be a comprehensive Land Reform and Settlement program to orderly dispose of suitable land for residential purposes, farmsteads, and other uses.
This is where advocacy from individual Members of Parliament could play a part. By identifying available land, land use demands, and pressure for land distribution programs.

25 years is a long time for any government to give attention to and plan for the use of government's land. On the contrary it maybe a good move. I think the current government ought to seriously consider the proposal.
ReplyDeleteYes they should👹
