Politics is Politics - Not a Business or A Church

I continue to hear some strange statements about politics from persons who are supposed to know better. For example, when a journalist says that a government used its majority to push through something in parliament, it is an unnecessary statement. What else would the government use? That is what politics is all about, and that is how government operates. You support an idea, and you get things done because you have the majority. That is democracy at work.

Many people have turned politics into a bad word. I must admit that the way politicians treat one another is not surprising, given the public's perception of them.

People will say that politicians only put people from their party on boards. You cannot expect someone to carry out the mandate of a democratically elected government unless the minister is comfortable with the thinking of that person. It is unlikely for example, for a catholic, or a baptist school to appoint a chair who is not a member of the church.

  1. Democratically elected government is a farcical illusion.
Political power is the ability to do and influence activities in the country that is beneficial to those percieved to be in power.
The masses of people wearing orange or green during an election carnival period whomever is denoted winner have no real political power all feel good celebrations.
Most of these people have no conscious economic power therefore no real political power.

There is a 1-2% of the population owning 95% of the real economy mainly, they have real political power.
These are not mainly from African descendants of the 450,000 slaves who became squatters in 1834-1838.
How come massive squatting is still a disgraceful reality today.

The Spanish came to Jamaica in 1494, British 1655 with lyrical Independence in 1962.
It is now 2025 or 531 years later with more than 1,000,000 squatters of a 3million population.
Are we the Jamaican descendants of slaves either Emancipated, have yet gained Independence, real economic or political power???.
