Some Parents Are Supporting Principals Who Ensure That Students Obey The Rules

There has been an outcry in certain sections of society about students being sent home because of certain infractions. If you have concerns about the rules, discuss the matter at your PTA meeting and let the PTA take it up with the school administration and the board. This practice of students and parents seeking media attention and running to the Ministry of Education will not solve the problem.

I don't like the idea of students being locked out of school. All of us, therefore, should say to these young people, "Obey the rules and go to school." It is as simple as that.

If students have a problem, speak to your parents and let your parents take it up with the PTA. The PTA will take up the matter with the administration and the board. A bad oonu bad so dat oonu ago challenge di principal dem. Adults have to follow the law, or else we might have to pay big fines or spend some time in His Majesty's Hotel. Students, therefore, must follow the rules until they are changed. That is how you build a country where law and order prevail.

If you grow up challenging the school like you run tings, the principal will have a right to run you.

It is amazing that society is more concerned about the disciplinary measures being taken to deal with their bad bruk pickney dem, rather than being concerned about their performance in school. We are more concerned about what is on their heads rather than what is in them. We are more concerned with how they look wearing the latest designer clothes rather than how socialised they are to help build a great country. Finally, we will spend the last dollar to make sure they look like Miss World or Mister World for graduation, and they cannot spell any of those words. May the good Lord help us.

Please listen to this voicemail below, which I received from a parent.

  1. Many schools it seems major in the minor instead of focusing on the matter at hand "learning and doing well"
I notice even the level.of liberalism in the army and police like plaited hair, beards etc only locks I have not seen.

Some things I see SCHOOL OFFICIALS bothering themselves about like bags hair styles and length.
Tight or big bellfoot pants, barefoot or picky picky hair, long/shorter skirts in my mind has to do with expression of self and little or nothing to do with academic excellence.
I forgot hickies on necks not allowed in petty parliament so I guess not in petty staff rooms or classrooms around the island

As long as basic rules are adhered to and their FREEDOM of EXPRESSIONS do not threaten the health, productive order and safety of others in the environment "NO PROBLEM".
Schools are learning institutions and not RELIGIOUS, IDEOLOGICAL or other INDOCTRINATION centres.

Do you recall when Rasta locked up pickney could not go to school .
Every now and then those things rear its conservative/backward notion.
