I am proposing that you and I, with help from others, do a documentary on the Jamaican political cleansing of the 1970s that affected the ordinary people.
That brings about No Man's Land, which gave rise to the construction of the remand centre in Southwest Saint Andrew.
You have families that are still hurting from Jamaica's political cleansing experience of the 1970s, and we need to get closure for them.
There were some striving communities in the area of Minstrel Street, Peckover Road, Blund Street, Girlling Street, Ralph Lane etc.
That is the area where Mrs. Beverly Anderson Manley grew up, and countless others, like KSAC's Councillor Samuel Drecketts.
Those were Striving Communities until Mr Anthony Spaulding Minister of Construction / Housing and the Administration of the Day, Decided to Bulldoze the area with a short notice,
that Uprooted Families in one of the largest political mass displacements of families in Jamaican history. since slavery was abolished.
My family had Property Title.
This story needs to be told, so that this experience will never to be repeated in Jamaica again.
I was there as a Child, and it was painful for our parents, as you could see the Government of the day never had any immediate use for the land's in the area. It was only because of the voting patern why they took the vicious action against the people with Children, and it takes the Government years to Construct the Remand Center.

The name of that street is Blount Street. Lived in the area during formative years. I always thought Bev Anderson was from the eastern side of the city.Spalding committed many atrocities in his time as a politician.
ReplyDeleteI remember that vicious program by the PNP to displace ordinary decent people just because they were voting for the JLP, all in the name of creating more Garrison Constituencies, for themselves.
ReplyDeleteBeverley Anderson was not from that area, I'm almost sure she grew up in the Rollington Town neighborhood...
