On Sunday, November 2, I went to Wendy's, a beautiful place on the outside, therefore I expected excellent customer service inside. This was about 8:50 pm.
I was the last person in the line, and it took a while for my items to be ready. I got what I had ordered and proceeded to sit at a table to have my meal. A gentleman who looked like a security person, said to me in a very crude fashion, "Yu can' eat een ya so, cause di place lock."
I replied to him, "Go and get management, and you can throw me out. of course, I continued to eat my meal, and when I was finished, I threw the rubbish in the bin. I then went to speak to the supervisor about the matter. No one wears name tags these days so one cannot say who is who.
When I explained the situation to the supervisor, she simply remarked that the place was closed.
I then said to her, "You cannot have your door open, sell me a meal, and then tell me the place is closed and I cannot eat inside." I realised that I was wasting time talking to the supervisor, so I left. I presumed there was more to that relationship between the security and the supervisor. There was no apology for the crude behaviour.
While heading out, several things crossed my mind. If I were in another country, I would blame it on racism. I felt despondent because for years I have lobbied for security guards to be treated better, and here I was being treated as if I was a common criminal by a security guard. I am now becoming aware that there is little or no respect for elders in Jamaica. My car was not parked outside, so I suspect that he saw me as a little walkin' ol' man. I don't blame him for his behaviour. When workers behave like that, it is reflective of the type of management that is in place. Good customer service is lacking in Jamaica, and it is time the people rebel against such poor customer service.
I only stopped to eat there because it was time to take my medications.
I checked the internet, where I saw that Gara Restaurant, located at 20 Valentine Drive, owns the Wendy's Restaurants. Ms Michell Myers Mayne is in charge, but I was unable to find any telephone contacts for this company. I wonder if any of my readers can help me.

Vernon, it seems as if we are fighting a loosing battle. Goid customer service is unusual in Jamaica
ReplyDeleteHeartless, foolish and unempathetic are words that could be used to describe the actions of Wendy's.
ReplyDeleteOnce customers are already inside the establishment at closing time, you must attend to them. Secondly, if the customers want to sit and eat, its their choice, bc it is a service offered by the establishment, and so they can opt to do so or go with a take out.
They decide when to take the last customer, but businesses with good customer service will stop taking customers at closing time.
