What's Happening - Hurricane Melissa Aftermath

A Bark Di Trute Supporter Writes

Attention Minister Vaz,

I am advocating for the Jamaica Public Service to establish a hurricane crisis solution centre for its loyal customers.

With live person agents and not AI assistance at this time, to present a human touch to the hurricane disaster for the people of Jamaica.

To prevent any further hurricane disasters in communities.

I got my electricity back at home in Passage Fort/Portmore on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

With low voltage, after an explosion took away the electricity during the hurricane, I am now not able to report the matter to the Jamaica Public Service.

This proposal needs urgent attention.

Listen to this European-Jamaican, Martin Zsifkovics, who was an executive in the hotel sector in Jamaica. He decided to work with the farmers in St. Elizabeth. He suffered under Beryl, and now he has been devastated by Melissa.

Press Release From The TAJ - Nov. 3, 2025

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising taxpayers that the due date for filing returns for Consumption Taxes, to include General Consumption Tax (GCT), Special

Consumption Tax (SCT), Telephone Call Tax (TCT), and Guest Accommodation Room

Tax (TGART), for the month of September has been extended from October 31 to Friday, November 28, 2025. This means that taxpayers will not face penalties for late filing and payment. The new deadline has been granted in consideration of persons who may have been affected by Hurricane Melissa, which has impacted the country.

The Consumption Tax returns for October 2025 are also due on November 28, 2025. Therefore, taxpayers will file and pay both September and October returns to meet the November 28 deadline.  Taxpayers are reminded that filing is mandatory online on TAJ’s website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

Payment can also be made via the TAJ’s eServices platform on its website, using a

Credit Card or Debit Card with Credit Card features. Other payment options include:  ü NCB Online Banking

ü  Scotia OnLine and Mobile App

ü  Direct Funds Transfer

TAJ encourages taxpayers to make use of this additional time to ensure that their filings are accurate and complete. TAJ remains committed to supporting taxpayers during this period and encourages all to take advantage of the extension.

For more information contact TAJ’s Customer Care at (888) TAX-HELP (829-4357).

Organizing Ourselves

With this disaster, a well-established National Identification System would assist us in ascertaining the number of people living in the various areas.

Using Google Maps, these areas could be identified. We should have software that can capture the benefits offered to each person. Those workers in the field would use their phones to capture the information. A stable communication system, such as Starlink, should enable us to do that. Are the Ham radio operations assisting with communications in the various communities?

Are we going to have a state of emergency (SOE)? This would help to control movement so that people don't crowd these areas, making the areas inaccessible for medical purposes and to provide general support for the people.

The state of emergency could be used effectively to deal with those dog heat criminals. Try them on location and let them be a part of the cleanup process, or else they spend a lifetime in jail.

Let the people recommend leaders for their communities. The role of these leaders would be to communicate the needs of the people to the relevant authorities and to ensure that the few greedy ones do not get everything while the rest starve.

Probably they are doing these things and more. Let us hear from those who are in charge.

In the meantime, the rest of us should stop creating false information and making political points out of this devastating and sad situation. Jamaica shall rise again. Remember that it is not material things that matter but how we love and treat one another. Together we can move mountains; single-handedly, we cannot even move a pebble!

Play your part by sharing this positive blog and continue to help to make a difference in Jamaica Land We Love. The World Loves Us. Thanks to those who contacted me from England, Bermuda, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the UK, Canada, and other countries.

Thanks.

  1. I support the idea of electing a community leader. Ensure that these people are have a track record of honesty and other qualities relevant to good moral standing.

  2. I'll say it again. SOE doesn't make sense at this time.
