Information From The Ministry of Local Government and Community Development - 2025/12/04
The Ministry of Local Government and Community Development (MLGCD), through the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA), Social Development Commission (SDC), and other MDAs will officially launch the National Clean-up Programme; a coordinated, all-island initiative responding to the extensive devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm ever recorded to impact Jamaica.
The programme’s first phase will focus on the six hardest-hit parishes: Westmoreland, St. Elizabeth, St. James, Hanover, Trelawny and Manchester. This intensive clean-up effort forms part of activities from the Government of Jamaica’s “Call to Action” toward recovery, resilience, and community rebuilding.
The National Clean-up Programme aims to:
- Restore community spaces and critical infrastructure
- Mobilize citizens, partners, and volunteers in a unified national recovery effort
- Promote civic pride, resilience, and community ownership
- Support continued relief operations and the return to normalcy in affected areas

NWC Challenges At 49 Whitehall Avenue, Kingston 8
Residents have reported that there has been a leaking NWC pipe for approximately one year at 49 Whitehall Avenue, Kingston 8. There is also sewer waste flowing on the compound.
Can you imagine the amount of water lost and the cost to the consumers?
The Acting President of the NWC must ensure that action is taken to deal with this matter.
Has Melissa Affected Your Land Boundary?
If Melissa has affected your land boundary, rather than getting into an argument with your neighbour, take the matter to the resident magistrate's court for the matter to be dealt with.
