| Dr. Randolph Watson |
He served with distinction as principal of Bethlehem Teachers’ College, Malvern, St. Elizabeth, where he provided visionary leadership, upheld academic excellence, and helped to shape generations of teachers who went on to serve Jamaica with commitment and professionalism. His influence extended well beyond the classroom, grounded in a deep belief that education is the foundation of personal growth, community upliftment, and national development.
Dr Watson was also a professor of English at the Institute of Medical Sciences in Black River, where his intellectual rigour, clarity of thought, and passion for language enriched the professional formation of countless students. He was widely respected for his scholarship, discipline, and ability to inspire confidence and critical thinking in those he taught.
Beyond formal education, Dr Watson gave selflessly to community development. He served as the first Director of Education of the St. Elizabeth Homecoming Foundation, helping to shape its educational vision and ensuring that learning, youth development, and human capacity-building were central to its mission. His guidance helped lay a strong foundation for sustainable community engagement.
A committed advocate for academic excellence, Dr Watson also served as Chairman of the M&M; Mathematics Competition in St. Elizabeth, encouraging young minds to embrace mathematics with confidence and ambition. His involvement reflected his belief in nurturing talent, discipline, and excellence from an early age.
Above all, Dr Randolph Watson was an outstanding community leader—respected for his integrity, wisdom, quiet strength, and unwavering service. His legacy lives on in the institutions he strengthened, the students he inspired, and the community he served with dignity and purpose.
Dr Randolph Watson, the people of St. Elizabeth and of Jamaica as a whole pause in gratitude to appreciate and honour your immense contribution to education and community life. Today, as we gather in celebration of your homegoing, we give thanks for a life well lived and a legacy firmly planted in service, excellence, and love for humanity. May your soul rest in eternal peace, and may your works continue to speak for generations to come.
