Jamaica based on per capita GDP, is the second poorest country in the Caribbean, at $7000. HAITI IS #1 Caribbean POOR WITH $2300. In CARICOM, Jamaica, excluding Haiti, is the poorest.

Saint Lucia: $10,452
Jamaica: $7,946
Barbados, at $23,167, is among the highest in per capita GDP. Mia Mottley is not the highest-paid PM in Caricom.
The irony is that Jamaica's PM is the 4th highest paid, but the country is the poorest in CARICOM.

- Keith Rowley (Trinidad and Tobago): $85,655 - $85,681
- Mia Mottley (Barbados): $79,550
Andrew Holness (Jamaica): Following 2023 adjustments, the Prime Minister of Jamaica's salary increased significantly, with reports indicating it reached over JAD 28.5 million (approx. $58,550, though some reports suggested it to be among the highest in the region.
Terrance Drew (St. Kitts and Nevis): $55,500
Gaston Browne (Antigua and Barbuda): $55,500
GODWIN FRIDAY (St. Vincent and the Grenadines): $55,724 - $57,840.
Is PM Holness deserving of his high salary in light of Jamaica's economic performance and his stewardship?

The PM deserves much more to take Jamaica out of the gully that it was in to carry it come here so and still trying his best to make Jamaica one of the country people want to live in he deserves more

ReplyDeleteMany Jamaicans are still unaware of the fact that Jamaica is the poorest English speaking country this side of the world for about 2 decades now or more.
ReplyDeleteSo, why are politicians being paid exorbitant salaries in a non-economic "viable" territory. This is political exploitation. The PM has accepted a USD $178, 000+ a year salary when the country continues to decline. The country's growth toggles between 0.8 to 1.8 percent annually while countries like Haiti sees growth over 2% and sometimes even 3%.
In addition to all that the unbridled theft of public funds with no accountability. Their previous salary was too much. We need performance based pay for politicians and stronger laws to prosecute public officials who steal from the public purse.
