Thanks to the Bark Di Trute supporter John Wildish for bringing this condensed milk concern to my attention. First, I remember when condensed milk was thick and sweet. When you believe that the milk was finished, you had to take a spoon to literally dig out the condensed milk at the bottom of the tin.
The Bark Di Trute supporter asked the Bureau of Standards a question, and he was referred to Mr Stewart at the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority.
His question is, has the standard for sweetened condensed milk been changed to allow seaweed extract (carrageenan gum) to be added to sweetened condensed milk? The supporter says this seaweed extract is not used in condensed milk anywhere else in the world.
Those who work with these government entities are servants of the people, and you have a responsibility to answer the people's questions.
Bureau of Standards and the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority, you are there to deal with the people's concerns and to protect their interests.
Please note that there are controversies about carrageenan gum and its effect on the body, especially when it is in a degenerative state. Some feel that it can cause cancer.
I call on the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority to respond to this matter. I have sent a question about a banned product in the past, and they did not respond.
