The Prime Minister's Salary Increase Too Much?

A created picture.

You should have heard by now that the prime minister has decided to accept the salary increase that was decided for him. There have been some interesting comments about the PM's salary. I saw one podcast, and the presenter could not even get the correct equivalent US value for the PM's salary.

If we are going to talk about the PM's salary increase, we need to talk about the increases in salaries for all other members of parliament, parish councillors, and public servants.

If we just concentrate on the PM's salary, then it gives credence to the point made by some JLP people, who say, "Grudge them, grudge them."

Let us criticize our political leaders intelligently. For example, one should ask the question, "Can Jamaica afford all these salary increases?" Look at our GDP and see what percentage of the GDP is the salary. Compare the per capita income of the country with the salaries being paid to political leaders and public servants. These are some of the things we should look at. Don't start the analysis by targeting the PM.

Remember that others received salary increases before the last election and kept quiet. The PM is just now accepting his increase.

Now that I have written all of that, under what conditions would you agree to our politicians and public servants getting a salary increase in the future? What systems would you put in place to review their salaries before an increase is granted?
