The war has started between the US, Israel and Iran. The following statement from the US president was displayed on BBC.
This war is going to be a decisive one. The aim is to obliterate Iran’s nuclear capabilities and to have a change in the regime. US and Israeli forces have hit several targets in Iran, and Iran has retaliated. Reports are that Iran has targeted many of its Arab neighbours. Jamaicans are living and working in those areas, and we hope to get news on those Jamaicans from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Many of us are very upset when countries are at war. Americans are probably concerned about Trump's promise not to lead the US into any. I understand that politicians will make promises, but circumstances will alter situations and necessitate responses.
I am surprised that, with the pending war in the Middle East, many tourists have continued to go to the Middle East. These tourists could have a challenge leaving the area because flights to the area will be affected.
If the war continues for an extended period, then with Iran blocking traffic through the Hormuz Strait, we could see an increase in the cost of oil.
The Supreme Leader of Iran may have been killed, but this has not been confirmed.
The PM of Israel, Netanyahu, is exhorting the Iranian people to rise up and take the necessary steps to have the Iranian leadership changed. He says that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
