Reports in the international media are that Cuba’s electrical grid suffered a total collapse on Monday. This is the first nationwide blockout in recent years and the first since the US oil embargo. Efforts are being made to restore the power.
It is also reported that citizens have demonstrated in front of the Communist Party headquarters office, and a fire was lit in the area. The office was also ransacked. This happened after a rally against high food prices and persistent power cuts.
The BBC reports that Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that, while the protesters' complaints and demands were legitimate, violence and vandalism that threaten citizen tranquillity would not be tolerated.

Are we aware that Cuba presently supplies 30% of its own oil.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great feat so far in a 100% literate country.
A little more time I visualize a Cuba with 100% oil self sufficiency.
Crisis of embargoes has brought opportunities.
Cuba is being punished for not embracing exploitative plantation capitalism driven and lead by our unipolar geopolitical neighbour 90 miles away.
Are we aware also that Cuba's Per Capita GDP is higher than.many other plantation economies in the caribbean..
Rank Country Nominal GDP per capita (2025)
1 Cayman Islands $86,689
2 Bahamas $36,780
3 Barbados $25,900
4 Antigua and Barbuda $22,630
5 Saint Kitts and Nevis $21,910
6 Trinidad and Tobago $18,440
7 Saint Lucia $14,500
8 Grenada $12,590
9 Dominican Republic $11,740
10 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines $11,160
11 Dominica $9,870
12 Cuba $9,500
13 Belize $8,650
14 Jamaica $7,780
15 Haiti $2,670
Cuba doing well in the hemisphere considering its the only one having back breaking embargoes on it by the world's leading economy USA.
Why isn't Belize, Haiti and our Boasy Jamaica doing better.
Can you imagine the day Cuba is allowed to live without embargoes and sanctions could become the wealthiest in the region competing with America.
Remember countries like
ReplyDeleteTrinidad
Guyana
Barbados
Cuba has petroleum products...
