How Will Jamaica Manage?

Contributed by Michael Spence

What are Jamaica's plans for a disruption in oil supplies and imminent higher prices, fueling inflation, increased poverty and misery?

Oil prices will go up because of the Iran-USA-Israel war.

Also, the closure of the Straits of Hormuz, through which 30% of the world's oil shipments pass.

What mitigating plans does Jamaica have?

Jamaica's current oil supplies in storage are estimated to last around 2-3 weeks, according to Energy Minister Daryl Vaz, some time ago. Has that changed to  2-3 months or 6 months?

That storage includes more than 20 million litres of aviation fuel currently available, so as not to end up like Cuba, telling airlines not to come to Jamaica.

Should we expect fuel rationing, hoarding, steep price increases, a rush on gas stations, and long lines?
