Breaking News - Well-known Psychiatrist Dies

Dr Aggrey Irons

News has been circulating for some time about the poor health of one of Jamaica's popular psychiatrists. Someone who saw him recently confirmed to Bark Di Trute that he was not looking healthy. This afternoon, Bark Di Trute supporters informed me that well-known and loved Dr. Aggrey Ions has died.

Dr. Irons served in various positions at Bellview Hospital, was a regular voice on the radio, and was a musician who will be missed by Jamaicans. He was very involved in organizations that have helped many Jamaicans.

Please tell us about your experience with this outstanding psychiatrist by adding your comments at the bottom of this blog in the comments section.

  3. Sleep In Peace Dr Irons.
    I'm saddened by this news.
Dr Irons was a Psychiatrist of no mean order and ahead of his time. He was human to the core! His sense of humour - second to none!
My Daddy had severe depression that played out in all it's glory. It was a very stressful time for us as a family and for me as at that time I was his primary caregiver. Doctors treated only his other medical conditions but ignored the depression. In my desperate quest to help my beloved Daddy, I went to Dr Irons. His appointment diary was booked out.
I wouldn't take no for an answer nor be placed on a wait list. I refused to leave his office. When he was done seeing patients and ready to leave I intercepted him and quickly stated my case. He understood my dilemma and saw my Dad within the same week. The encouragement he gave my Dad and the respect he showed made my Dad face light up while trying to hold back tears. He addressed him and said "Mr .... ,You are not a mad man! This is what's happening." He explained to my Dad and me and it made perfect sense. My father walked into Dr Irons office with a defeated posture and walked out shoulders squared back with the military the pride I grew up seeing.
    That has stayed with me.
I've also seen Dr Irons on stage. - he always thrilled the audience.
I'm grateful Dr Irons, a man of this soul, cared for my Daddy.
Love and respect to you Doc and heartfelt condolences to his wife, family, colleagues, friends.

  4. This is very sad news. Dr. Irons was a great psychiatrist. He has always been the guest speak for the new parents of Wolmer's Boys' School every year. His sense of humor was second to none. He was so funny that when he left a room after a speech, he would leave you in 'stiches' of laughter. He will be greatly missed. May his soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine upon him.
