Jamaica Is Going Over A Dangerous Precipice - Time To Stop!

Chancery Street traffic in Kingston can be chaotic.

Jamaica is going over a very dangerous precipice, and strong leaders need to stand up and be firm. I notice that some sections of society are targeting various institutions and organizations, and it is clear to me that there are people who want to create anarchy in society.

We are trying to tear down our parliament and to bring that institution into disrepute. We are now trying hard to tear down the police force so that we can do what we want to do.

Shockingly, even some people in the media are into this tearing down also. You remember how Dudus and Zeeks were made into superstars. Many claim that the US has been interfering in the internal business of other countries. It is the US that saved us from Dudus. I remember when Zeeks was detained by the police, and crowds brought activities to a halt in the city. Zeeks had to be given a megaphone to calm down the crowd and for them to go home. Vybz Kartel was one of the lucky ones, and I recall the support he got from the public. I gather that he is in the US. He will have to behave himself there.

Once again, the Jamaica Constabulary Force is being targeted. Jamaica For Justice and other groups are quick to tell the JCF members how to behave and how to do police work. Who is telling the people how to behave when accosted by police?

I am very concerned that a significant number of Jamaicans are quick to tear down those who are in authority, for those who have no intention to help to build a great society. I cannot recall when the masses last stood up for decent Jamaicans. If yu a bad man yu a star.

Let me warn the Prime Minister, the Commissioner of Police, and others to be careful that the noise of indiscipline does not drown out the voices of decent Jamaicans, which cause you to appease those who support lawlessness.

I did not hear a chorus singing in unison, supporting the work of the police in reducing murders last year, but now a questionable character gets into a confrontation with the police, and it seems as if the whole force is being condemned.

If Jamaicans were a peaceful people, then police officers would not need guns. If the people respected the police, I am sure they would be treated with class. I notice another dangerous trend. When some taxi drivers get into challenges with the police, they take matters into their own hands, and their association demands that the drivers be released. So there is no need to have a judicial system then!

Jamaica is going down a very dangerous precipice where people feel that, because they are adults, they don't need to follow the rules in parliament. When they are on the streets, police officers cannot talk to them. The curse words from citizens aimed at the police, citizens fighting with police when they are carrying out their lawful duties, and citizens encouraging other citizens to resist arrest are signs of decadence and decay. This will lead to a dysfunctional state.

Somebody needs to tell the people that you cannot challenge a policeman who has a gun, nor do anything that could put the officer's life at risk. When I was young, I was told that if you live by the sword, you will die by the sword.

Watch the video below, and you will learn what is not supposed to happen between police and citizens.

  1. I agree with you that our response to our police officers cannot be immediately aggressive however you used the word ‘accosted’ to describe the approach of the police toward civilians, that cannot be the officers approach to us.
A negative approach will engender a negative response!
Not because the police officer is in a position of authority means that he/she should approach us disrespectfully and crudely, the officer must be mindful at all time of our RIGHTS as citizens. We too need to remember that respect is due. We both need to do better.

    1. If you have committed a crime, then like it or not, the police will accost you. You must humble yourself.

  2. Your argument is based on bias, such that despite having some good points the entirety of your blog becomes muddled. The video you showed is definitely indicating the undisciplined and lack of regard for the authority of the police but,, your blog was based on an incident that cannot be compared. Your clearly took the position because of your political leaning which makes it difficult for the point you are trying to make be considered valid.

I agree we are, as a country, heading in the wrong direction but, not for the reasons you have sited.

    1. Our country is in trouble for a long time. What is needed is not an analysis of my blog but an analysis of the situation in the country and coming up with solutions. Calling me biased and partisan will not improve the situation.

    2. It is sad that you cannot call out uncouth behaviours by politicians and not be labelled biased. Our society has courted bad behaviour for such a long time that we no longer understand nor appreciate what's appropriate and what is not. Many don't even know how to identify right from wrong anymore. The subculture is now the superculture, so now the fundamental, mainstream and generally acceptable rule of law and behaviour has lossed its place.

The rude boy, brawling and brutish culture now typifies what it means to be Jamaican. Our music is vulgar, our dance is vulgar and too overtly sexual, our behaviour on the roads is anticipated indiscipline, it is now acceptable to disrespect authority, so much so that I've heard several persons now saying that they don't want to be in management positions at their workplace because people and becoming increasingly difficult to supervise. There is just a general air of disorder and chaos that pervades Jamaica and, sad to say it has crept in our politics for some time now. We really do need to draw brakes because prosperty cannot be achieved and maintained without values.

  3. Brute force cannot instill confidence. The
Police is improving but they are not there yet
Remember they are coming from a bad place.
A lot of things happen out there between the
Police and citizens that we don't hear about.
Our citizens and the Police have a lot of work to do and it is going to take some time. No matter what we're going to say when someone is dead they cannot defend themselves.

    2. The term "brute force" keeps coming up. The matters I have been discussing have nothing to do with brute force.

  5. The country needs reform of every kind. It is a failed state. People pretending as if all is well. It is not well.
The police are not policing. People have a right to protest police brutality and demand change. No well-thinking individual would support the police's behaviour. It is illegal. People don't need to respect the police. It is not a requirement. They need to carry out their duties professionally, and abusing their positions is not professional. The citizens are obligated to call out wrongs and demand change without fear, prejudice or bias. If not, the country will never be better. It will never come out of the mire and decadence it has been in for the longest time. Now is the time to stand up and fight for the Jamaica you want.
