Squatters From The Days Of Slavery!

Contributed

Michael Spence

JAMAICANS  have no real independence. What does independence mean? We are not independent. Look, in 1838, all slaves became squatters—450,000 of them.

Today in 2026, Jamaica's squatter population is really up to 1.5 million. Is that really independence? Descendants of slaves, 98% of the population own no more than 5% of Jamaica. Others, 2% mainly non-Blacks, own 95% of Jamaica.

Talk about "My Government" where? Not for Blacks. Remember this: "He who has economic power has real political power."

Blacks have no political power. Government is controlled by those with economic power, like the Queen who still has power over the slaves.

Governments are puppets for those with real economic power.

  1. Ask Mr Spence to share where he got the figures about who owns what percentage of Jamaica.

  2. Fascinating! It is incredible that the lesson draen here appears to be one of let's shoot the messenger. How will Afrikans progress when we are so programmed to defend massa at any cost?

  3. Am I to understand that my piece of land is there for waiting for me ? No wonder we have so many squatters.

  4. I've always said that it was understandable that you'd have so many Black Jamaicans landless after their self-serving masters gave them no compensation for their generations of free labour. But now, almost 200 years later, what is our excuse? Why can't the majority of Jamaicans not own a property for themselves?

We fooled ourselves when we thought NHT was the solution when truth be told, their approach is hardly dissimilar from that of our slave masters who take, take, take and gave little to nothing in return. I can't understand why people can't see how immoral the NHT model. They take money from persons income at source, and then tell you that you don't qualify for a house. So, you can end up paying NHT all your working life and get nothing to show for it. The persons who benefit the most are the ones who can afford these ultra-expensive mortgages. So, in effect, we are taking from the poor to benefit the rich. Meanwhile, NHT staffers, particularly those in executive management are handsomely paid and get attractive housing benefits. How parasitic! Make that make sense.
