Breaking News - Student Falls From Second Floor at School and Suffers Serious Injuries

Generated picture.

I just received a report that a student fell from an upper floor at a school in Kingston. Students have reported that the student was unable to move. He was rushed in an ambulance to the hospital. Was this student pushed, or did he attempt suicide? There must be no protection of the school's name or protection of a guilty student when dealing with it.

You will note that this matter has not been reported anywhere so far. I have reported the story here because my sources are trustworthy.

If the student has mental issues, it is shocking that the staff did not pick up anything unusual about the youngster. Did his parents pick up anything? While the student might have issues, this does not mean someone will not take it as a joke to push him over the rails.

This reminds me of stories of boys going for a swim, and one ends up drowning. You then hear stories that there was an argument, and some of the boys pushed the fellow under the water, and he was unable to help himself.

If you have information about this matter, please WhatsApp the information at (876) 816-5261.

ODPEM's Chairman Dennis Chung - Earthquake Awareness Month Message

Dennis Chung

As chairman of ODPEM, I am pleased to extend a message to Jamaica, as we observe January as Earthquake Awareness Month 2025, under the theme “Prepare for the quake, reduce the impact of the shake.”

This theme is in line with the strategic direction of the ODPEM, to build resilience, with the aim of reducing the impact of natural disasters on Jamaica and Jamaicans. It is always less costly to be more resilient, and hence this is where our focus is. There is no doubt that natural disasters will happen, and it is only a matter of when they occur.

The ODPEM has two primary roles in dealing with these natural disasters. The first is to educate and prepare the public and the second is to respond to the effects of a natural disaster. As a board, we have considered that we should ensure that we are as prepared as much as possible, prior to the event happening, and that the structure in in place to respond during and after the event.

This is even more critical for earthquakes, as while we can predict when a hurricane will arrive, we are not yet able to predict the occurrence of an earthquake. So, it is even more important that we are constantly prepared, as an earthquake can happen at any time.

Preparation, in the case of earthquakes, means adherence to building codes, and getting the required permits, checking your surroundings for hazards, knowing what to do during an earthquake, and having a plan for what to do after an earthquake.

However, because an earthquake last only a few seconds, the only way we can be ready is if we are aware of when an earthquake starts and consistently practice our action about where to take cover. In other words, advance planning will ensure that you instinctively act and make the right decisions that will determine the outcome for you.

The ODPEM will continue to educate the public about preparedness about all natural disasters, and earthquakes in particular, as a part of our continuous PR campaign. We also urge the public to review the information about earthquakes on our website (www.odpem.org.jm), to inform yourself about what an earthquake is, what to do to prepare, and what the hazards are that may be in your home or office.

We will continue to work to ensure that Jamaicans and Jamaica develop greater resilience to natural disasters and urge the public to always be prepared.

Dragged Up Children Will Drag Down The Society

There seems to be a strong move the destroy Jamaica further by wittling away the power and authority of our Principals. Those of us who helped to build this country passed through the hands of some principals who held awesome powers. They were in charge and they took charge.

Now there is a move for students take charge and to do their own thing. While we must listen to our students, students need to understand that at this state of their life they need to follow the rules. I have learnt since leaving high school that some of those stupid school rules played an important role in shaping my lives.

Schools had rules and we had to obey them. Our right then was for us to be properly trained for life. In these madern days, students seem to have every right except the right to a good education and proper socialization.

They have the right to wear any hairstyle they want to wear, any clothes the want to wear, the right to arrive at school anytime they want to arrive, the right to disrespect teachers and members of staff. There are some who are called parents and we see them on social media expressive themselves in the most crude fashion and saying horrible things about those who have taken up the noble job of teaching.

These days people are more concerned about their children hairstyle rather than their character and their skillset. These people should have a right to start their own private schools. The ministry has to stop bowing to pressure from these loud mouths.

Jamaica is going through a terrible state due to a break down in family life and a complete breakdown in how we socialize our your people at home and in the schools. The behaviour of our people on our streets is a manifestation of how we are dragging up our children.

Did Delroy Chuck Lie About What He Said Regarding Reporting Spouses Salaries To The IC?

The political climate is getting warmer and warmer, and it is now getting hot. Let me remind all politicians that you are all politicians. When you continue to character-assassinate one another, the people will continue to lose respect for all of you.

If the people get fed up and turn against all politicians, that could be the end of the end. Today let's take a look at the perception of what Delroy Chuck said in parliament about reporting on one's spouse's income to the Integrity Commission, and what he actually said.
