Jamaica's Sick Morality On Display

The above billboard, placed in Rockfort, should not have been taken down. It is a reflection of society, and taking it down makes us look like hypocrites.

You might ask why it makes us look like hypocrites.

Many Jamaican men have little or no respect for our womenfolk, and many of the womenfolk have little or no respect for themselves.

Sex sells, and the next step is to put up a billboard with two people having sex.

We might have a man posing with this drink next.

We tolerate the dancehall. Many dancehall songs support the acting out of the sex act, just like carnival.

This is a country where men of the cloth sleep with other men and also minors, and in some cases, the women defend them. This is a country where a man sleeps with his three sons. This is the country where a don was convicted because of evidence that was left behind after engaging in certain sexual acts.

Jamaica needs to be cleaned up now. From the home to the school, to the community, to Gordon House and King's House. Then and only then will we have real prosperity.

The moral of this billboard for promotion and advertising: When you have no creativity, remember that sex sells.

It will be interesting to see how many comments this blog will attract. If Bark Di Trute were supporting certain immoral things, I would not have to be begging for support every day.

Some Cuban Doctors Remain In Jamaica!

JIS Press Release, May 8 2026

Dr. Christopher Tufton

More than 40 Cuban healthcare workers, formerly part of the bilateral arrangement between Jamaica and Cuba, have chosen to remain on the island and are now serving under individual contracts, according to Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton.

Speaking with journalists at the Ministry in New Kingston recently, Dr. Tufton indicated that, prior to the recall of Cuban healthcare workers, approximately 278 doctors were engaged in the programme.

“Of that number… about over 40 decided not to return [to Cuba] and were given individual contracts… and are working in the [local health] system now,” he said.

Dr. Tufton noted that the Government has extended an invitation to additional Cuban healthcare workers who may wish to return to Jamaica under new contractual arrangements.

“Beyond that, all were offered a letter to say if they are interested, we’d be willing to re-engage them based on their own interests… but on the basis of individual contracts. Some have expressed an interest in so doing, even though they have returned [to Cuba]. So, yes, there is an open invitation, which we have set for the record… and we have received some information that some are interested. If they come, then we would be prepared to engage them,” he added.

The Minister further disclosed that some Cuban healthcare workers currently in Jamaica have applied for permanent residency after living and working in the country for several years.

“Some of them that are here on work permits have been here for a period of time and have expressed their interest to have permanent status… which is allowable under the law once you live here for a particular period of time. There are some that have been here five years, or even more in some cases,” Dr. Tufton added.

Meanwhile, he informed that the Ministry’s human resource (HR) strategy now extends beyond Cuba as Jamaica works to address shortages in critical areas of the healthcare system.

Dr. Tufton noted that Jamaica recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with India to facilitate collaboration in healthcare staffing, training, and professional exchanges.

“The Foreign Minister for India [His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar] was here… and we signed an MOU… to among other things… include the possibility of rotation of clinical personnel coming here,” the Minister informed.

Dr. Tufton further disclosed that discussions are under way with Apollo Health System in India to support Jamaica’s expanding hospital network.

“Apollo Health System representatives visited and met with me, and we are now engaged in talks towards an agreement. They are a private health system in India, with connections all throughout the world. We intend to utilise them for a few things, including the possibility of helping us to ramp up the new hospitals which will open in Western Jamaica,” he indicated.

Dr. Tufton also pointed to additional arrangements with African countries, noting, “We have an MOU with Ghana, and there are ongoing conversations with Nigeria.”

Additionally, he emphasised that the Government is pursuing overseas recruitment initiatives to help address critical staffing shortages within the health sector.

“We have to solve the problem of healthcare worker shortage in some of the areas. There are some areas where we are critically short… and that is going to have to involve recruitment of labour externally,” the Minister added.

Dr. Tufton stated that Cabinet has approved the initiative, which includes the creation of a recruitment unit within the Ministry.

Editor's Note

The minister needs to tell us about a longer-term programme aimed at training medical professionals over the next ten years so that we can end up with a surplus of doctors.

Many Jamaicans want to do medicine, but they lack the funds to do so. Jamaica cannot lose if we set aside funds for medical training administered by the Student Loan Bureau. Even if these doctors migrate after fulfilling their bond requirements, their remittances will continue to make a difference.

We cannot spend another fifty years importing doctors when we can invest in the human talent here. This means the medical school might have to expand.

There are penalties for those doctors who do not return to Cuba. Minister, how would we get Cuba to allow doctors who are willing to work under the new contract to leave Cuba for Jamaica?

Jamaica To Retain More Tourism Dollar In The Economy

JIS Press Release, May 11, 2026

The Honourable Edmund Bartlette

Jamaica must significantly increase the amount of tourism earnings retained within the local economy by expanding the country’s supply capacity and strengthening local ownership within the industry, says Minister of Tourism Hon. Edmund Bartlett.

Mr Bartlett further noted that too much of the wealth generated by tourism continues to leave the region, as Caribbean countries remain heavily dependent on imported goods and services.

He informed that he has been leading regional discussions on improving tourism’s supply side to ensure Caribbean people benefit more directly from the sector.

“I have been asked to chair their (Caribbean Tourism Organization) subcommittee on the supply side, which is what we’ve been talking about here in Jamaica,” the Minister said.

Mr. Bartlett was addressing the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) Speed Networking Event at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James on Thursday (May 7).

He disclosed that discussions have already been held with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) regarding support for a regional tourism demand study.

“They have agreed that they will fund a study on the demand of tourism in the Caribbean,” Mr. Bartlett informed.

He underscored that the greatest economic opportunities in tourism lie beyond hotel rooms and instead exist within the broader network of goods and services required to sustain the industry.

“The wealth of tourism is in the supply side. It’s what the people eat, it’s what they wear, it’s the vehicles that they drive in, it’s the transportation arrangements that are provided and it’s the attractions all around,” he said.

Mr. Bartlett further noted that Jamaica currently retains a higher percentage of tourism earnings than many countries in the region but pointed out that greater improvement is needed.

“The retention level of the tourism dollar in the region averages some 15 cents in the dollar. Jamaica is ahead of the pack, just below the Dominican Republic, but we need to go further,” he said.

The Minister indicated that Jamaica currently retains close to 40 per cent of tourism earnings and is targeting levels comparable to countries such as India.

“We are somewhere close to 40 per cent now, but we need to go to 50, 60 per cent. India has 60 per cent. They are the highest in the world,” Mr. Bartlett said.

He further stated that increasing local production and entrepreneurial participation will be critical to achieving that target.

Editor's Note

We need to stop emphasizing the number of tourists visiting Jamaica and focus on the sector's contribution. What is important is not just how much is retained per dollar, but also how much of that dollar is spent attracting and creating the appropriate environment for the tourists.

To what extent will the hotels have some of their work done by locals rather than importing labour?

Let the discussion begin here on Bark Di Trute because some parliamentarians spent more time quarrelling in the house and complaining about how parliamentarians are treated, rather than discussing the big issues which can move us forward as a nation.

Kari Lake, of Arizona, is to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Jamaica. This means she will be empowered to make decisions on behalf of the government and to sign treaties. Although this title is used often these days, it means the highest status that an ambassador can be given.

Part III Turning The Corner - What WIll It Take

Contributed

Parts 1 and 2 explored the broad contours of Jamaica’s progress and the mindset shifts behind our successes. But turning the corner requires more than reflection; it requires action.

The path forward is complex. It will depend on improvements in education, expanded income opportunities, affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and stronger social protection. Above all, it will require credible leadership capable of shaping a vision of peace, security, progress, and shared prosperity.

Changing mindsets is not easy. But consistent, clear, and universally understood communication can build belief. Jamaica needs a new national dialogue, one that focuses on vision, purpose, and results, not rhetoric; one that focuses on tangible outcomes, not speeches.

We must:

  • Communicate more, and communicate better
  • Build capabilities that support the vision and results
  • Share progress in forms that people can see, feel, and trust
  • Celebrate wins in ways that include everyone
  • Build a movement where every Jamaican feels included, valued, and invested

A movement where success is not something that happens to the people but something that happens with the people.

If we can align aspiration, communication, participation, competence, and trust, then Jamaica can indeed turn the corner.

Many, though declining, remain resolute in the belief it will happen. After all, we have been successful before. As JamaiCANs, together we can

Peace and love.

Bark Di Trute Supporters Speak Out

  • PC Bank Fees Increased

Good afternoon Mr Darby

Did you know that the banks are now charging on deposits?

I went to a PC bank in Stony Hill this morning. If you are depositing more than $10000 you have to pay a fee.

Editor

Did the management put the proposal of the fees increase to the membership of the bank? Did they say what the increased fees are for? Let's hope this increase is not to fund the lifestyle of the management and staff.

  • Begging

GM Mr. Derby,

There is an indecent practice being developed in Jamaica. And It is when you go to purchase good and service from some merchants. The workers are begging you money. We must call for a stop to this Practice.

We must stop the begging in all Sectors of Jamaica and allow the People to freely give.

The begging create extra pressure on the  People

Editor

You need to let me know where this is happening. Note that some people don't beg, they demand and if you do not give them, they abuse you.

  • The Government and The Judicial System

It is indeed a Sad Day in Jamaica's  History. When the Government of Jamaica decided to go up against the Jamaican people in the courts. On Matters to Benefit  the Environment.

It should never come to this. To see the Government up against the People and the People Against the  Government in the court.

What about Mediation at this time.

I hope that Good Sense Will Prevail in Our Government

Editor

It is sometimes good to have certain matters go to court. The decision of the courts helps to define our laws and set precedents. The courts help to define what the people's rights are, the rights of the government and the rights of institutions.

  • Early Childhood

 CDC's Community Advocates for Development.

It is Child Month May 1st, 2026.

It is important that i uses my time with the CDC for a Purpose, to better the life of others, to advocates for the children, who unable to speak for themselves, to make their Community Experience an Enjoyable Memorable one.

I am now calling on the SDC to do more for Early Childhood Development Issues and Environmental Protection.

The solution, I am Proposing / Advocating for, is for the SDC to allow the Ministry of youth and Sport's to do more for the Promotion of Communities Local  Sporting events.

This is one way some funds could be free up to use to Promote Some of the Early Childhood initiatives, to give more attention to Community Parks Development /Environment Resilience.

It is time for the SDC to refocus on giving  Early Childhood Developmental Issues Greater Prominence, that will Assist Child  Development.

If we want a more Gentle and Compassionate Jamaica to live, in years to come.

It is what we put in, that we will get back out.

Maximum Blessings,

Mr. D. Gordon,

Community Advocate for Sustainable Development
