UNCONFIRMED REPORTS

• A man was detained after the mother of a three year old girl reported that the child was sexually molested. The Mandeville police is investigating the matter.
• Two teenages coming from a dance were shot by a lone gunman in May Pen.
• Police are concerned that additional time is being given for dances and parties to continue beyond 2:00 am. Police officers claim that with the reduced number of police officers, they are unable to offer proper protection to persons who are attending these dances.

MAN DISARMED ALLEGED ROBBER OF FIREARM, HANDED IT OVER TO POLICE

One Beretta pistol with a magazine containing nine 9mm cartridges was handed over to the Spanish Town Police on Sunday, December 24.

Reports are that about 5:15 a.m., a man was walking along Essex drive in Spanish Town, St. Catherine when he was held up at gunpoint by a man who demanded money. A struggle ensued and an explosion was heard. The alleged gunman ran, leaving behind the firearm, which was handed over to the Spanish Town Police.

Shortly after, a team was summoned to Essex drive  where a man was seen with gunshot wound. The man was assisted to hospital where he was searched and an additional  thirty-two 9mm cartridges found inside one of his pants pockets. He is admitted to hospital under police guard.

The injured man’s identity is being withheld pending further investigations.

MAN KILLED IN CRASH  IN DISCOVER BAY, ST. ANN

Fifty-eight-year-old Donald Webb, otherwise called ‘Danny’, a welder of Jack Lodge, Discovery Bay, St. Ann died from injuries he received in crash along the Old Folly main  road in the parish on Sunday, December 24.

Reports from the Discovery Bay Police are that about 5:40 a.m., Police were on partrol when they got reports of a body seen along the roadway and went to investigate. On arrival they also saw a damaged pedal cycle. Investigations revealed that Webb along with his grandson were riding along the road when they were hit by a motorcar which did not stop. They were taken to hospital where Webb was pronounced dead;  the boy was treated and released.

The Discovery Bay Police is appealing to any who can assist in their ivestigations to contact them at 972-2233, Police 119 emergency number or the nearest Police Station.

GANJA SEIZURE AT THE NORMAN MANLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT/ONE MAN CHARGED

One man was arrested and charged by Detectives from the Narcotics Division for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act at the Norman Manley International Airport on Friday, December 22.

He is 27-year-old Warren Hassart, Tattoo Artist of Bath district, Manchester.

Reports are that about 1:20 p.m., Hassart was about to check in to board a flight destined to the Eastern Caribbean when he was stopped, interviewed and his luggage searched by the lawmen. Four packages of compressed ganja, with an approximate weight of 4.5 pounds were found. The illicit drug has an estimated street value of JMD 18 000. He was subsequently charged by the Detectives for the offences of Possession of Ganja, Dealing in Ganja and Taking Steps to Export Ganja.

Hassart is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Parish Court on Friday, December 29.

Superintendent Jervis Moore is reminding drug traffickers, that the Narcotics Division will be maintaining a high level of vigilance in this Yuletide season and no efforts will be spared in preventing the trading of contraband across our borders.
