As Chairman of the Festival Song 2018, I want to thank the members of my committee who made the Festival Song Competition Great again. From no competition in 2017, we all made it Bigga and Betta in 2018.
The members of the Festival Committee for 2018 are:
- Vernon L. Derby - Chairman & Board Commissioner
- Pat Reid - Deputy Chairman & Board Commissioner
- Dennis Archer - Board Commissioner
- Garfield Lee - Board Commissioner
- Roxene Nickle - Cool FM
This year was an historic year with the largest number of entries, the largest group to have entered the competition, most professionals to be in the top ten and the first time a church choir has entered the competition.
I want to thank the media for the wonderful support that we got this year. Thanks also to the people of Jamaica who gave the competition such a strong suport. Thanks to Ashe, Freddie McGreggor, Alaine Haughton, Karen Smith, Mark Thomas, Frankie Campbell from Fab 5 and all the others who helped us in preparting the performers.
The Festival Song Committee lead the way in showing that shows can start on time and finished on time when we started with the semi-finals. This was made possible because the judges scores were captured on a laptop which automated the process of totalling the scores and assisting in the selection of the top tem songs.
