12 Days of Mourning? Some Jamaicans do no Approve

The following was sent to me by a listener to my programme, SpotOn on Riddim FM:

Can anyone explain why the Prime Minister has declared 12 days of mourning? Whilst we may offer condolences on a human level, whilst she was alive our lives has never been enhanced and there is no chance that will change unless we make that change ourselves.

The Prime minister if he wishes could moan in his own private way if he so wishes as I am sure others may do, but he should never have declared such a thing on this nation. To make matters worst to suggest cancelling any celebration is going too far. I can only hope this will be clarified. If that refers to government planned celebrations, does it mean if this happened in last month all independence, celebrations would be cancelled? Sorry to go on but it explains why there is no effort to rid this country of the British as our ruler.

Most disappointed.

  1. I actually understand the announcement. Our head of state (whether we like it or not) has died and the protocols must be observed. Should the Queen (now the King) of the UK be our head of state? That's a different question. The people have been polled and said NO! So, let's get on with that part and stop moaning about it.

As for me, the Queen lived a life of luxury and opulence, funded by riches built for her country on the backs of brutalised slaves who were my ancestors. She has never apologised for the 300 years of that atrocity and was silent about apartheid. I'm not mourning or cancelling anything.

    1. I agree but the elected head of our government need to reflect the views of the people. The fact that as the so call head of state has dine nothing to benefit that state leaves me to wonder what is the purpose of that role. The GG is her representative here send him to do that. But please do not ask me to mourn.

  3. Aye sah... Those who wish to mourn let them mourn. I think 🤔 those who know history and the truth of it all, well... this is a commercial break. End of an era. Please do continue to have a wonderful day. Love and blessings🙏🏾

  4. Those who wish to mourn are free to do so. But why should i when the british establishment through various means were being paid through taxes for the loss of property (our fore parents) and earnings up until 2015 because slavery was abolished. They continue to benefit to this day on the suffering of our ancestors.
I will not celebrate her death but neither will i mourn.
