Roads Blocked in St. Thomas

Work at a standstill

Reports coming out of St. Thomas on Tuesday. September 6, indicate that residents in the parish are upset that it is taking too long to complete the highway being constructed in the parish. In order to show their frustration, residents blocked the roads even after their MP Dr. Michelle Charles indicated to them that she would be making representation on their behalf to have this matter dealt with.

The MP for Eastern St. Thomas, Dr. Michelle Charles in a report to me this afternoon, said that as it relates to other works on the ground to be done by the sub contractor, this had to be put on pause as of this  morning. This is due to the hostile nature of the protestors and the risk to the workers on the construction site.

JPS Unable To Access The Area To Restore Power

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) in a release this afternoon, said that JPSCo teams seeking to address outages being experienced by customers in Port Morant to Quaw Hill, including Stokes Hall, Golden Grove, Dalvey and environs, in the parish of St. Thomas, are being hampered by the demonstrations taking place in the eastern sections of the parish.

JPS received reports as early as 11:30 am, but has still not been unable to access the area due to the ongoing protests and road blocks.

NWA Also Has A Challenge

The NWA says that continuous protest by some residents of St. Thomas is now impacting the efforts by contractors to improve the road conditions in the parish. Their release went on to say that since yesterday, residents have mounted roadblocks in the Leith Hall and Amity Hall communities over the state of the road. The corridor between Morant Bay and Prospect is currently being rehabilitated as part of the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project (SCHIP).
