Mrs. Pearl Russell |
It was a beautiful evening with the Jamaican sunset forming the backdrop to the loving setting for the 90th celebration of Mrs. Pearl Russell's life. What an evening it was to join Cecile and Richard Russell at their home as they invited friends and other family members to participate in the classy celebration. Mrs. Russell was the matron at the Spalding Hospital in Clarendon, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Christian, and she lived for many years with her husband Viv, and their children in Coleyville, Machester. She was also involved in training nurses at Knox Community College.
Her husband Viv Russell was my father's best friend. When my father took ill, Viv played the role of the ambulance driver and took my father to the Ulster Spring Hospital and he subsequently performed the duty of driver for the hearse. I lost my father at age three but the Russell family has never forgotten Pert's one son, Vernon.
It is amazing that at 90, Pearl reads without glasses and walks without assistance. She has lived a distinguished life and I understand at one time she was a guest of Queen Elizabeth, at Buckingham Palace in the United Kingdom. A wonderful, no-nonsense woman, an educator, a nurse, a wife, and a mother. May she continue to enjoy the rest of her life.
