Squatting |
Jamaica has over 400 miles of beach and Jamaicans, 3 million of us have unimpeded entry access to only about 2-3 miles.
Jamaicans are locked up in their own country even those not in prison. Shame and disgrace, what is the PNP/JLP/Jamaican people going to do about it.
Squatting accounts for at least a third or 1 million squatters. A United Nations Charter states "Every Human Being Has A Right To A Liveable Space".
Government must fulfill that human right as a first move for reparations. Stop looking to the King of England to start reparations is perhaps an escapist pipe dream.
Crown Lands /Government Lands/UDC lands whatever the diversion lands that the slave masters got reparations for is here.
If we are serious about reparations let us do the right thing, start right here.
This is a Jamaica problem whether you are PNP, JLP or no P at all the descendants of slaves must demand and take their liveable space.
No politician, capitalist class/investors can stop that and must not be empowered to do so.
This is an important move in the deepening and widening of the wealth creation processes and manifestation of Independence.
Any political movement, party or person stepping forward to eliminate squatting must have our unequivocal and unquestionable support. Time come to eliminate squatting on the island of Jamaica.
I recall a former Commissioner of Police Hardley Lewin saying "Squatter communities are like factories for criminals".We have to agree though in many cases even decent law-abiding citizens are literally forced to be squatters among them mainly black people even teachers, police, soldiers, politicians, lawyers, doctors, secretaries, bank workers, artisans, small, and large business people.
None of us are immune considering that in the 1838 emancipation proclamation, 350,000 slaves became squatters. It is an absolute disgrace that in 2023 we still have squatting going on, for a third of our population. It must end.
I emphasize this is not a JLP or PNP problem. Not a Christian, Islam, Rasta or atheist problem, it is a Jamaican problem and we must join hands and hearts to eliminate squatting on our island of 3 million people.
The time is now for squatting to be eliminated once and for all. Don't be afraid the 98% black population will give support.
The 2% mainly non-black enlightened business class will also support us as we are one people and our survival has one aim one destiny for a sustainably vibrant progressive prosperous world-class island in the sun and the world as per the 2030 vision.
One people, one aim one destiny and 2030 is just around the corner.
