I received the following complaint from a Bark Di Trute supporter:
"Good evening Mr. Derby. The road situation in Jamaica has been a major concern for many years without any sign of a long term solution. The only time there is an attempt to PATCH roads is when there political points to be made but never for the benefit of the people of this country. Quite recently there was a rushed road patching programme from Brown's Town to Runaway Bay (never seen so many trucks working day and night). This i may add is a crucial north south route that has been in a state of disrepair for some time. It has now come to light the reason for this rush patch is that the JLP had a meeting that was to be held at the community college (this took place last Sunday). It was so blatant that the repair did not even extend to the town centre where it is also much needed. Instead it starting point is around the corner from the college northwards to Runaway Bay. This disgraceful act tells me that the people of this country is of no importance until election time. These so called repairs that is normally destroyed within months either by rainfall or just the expected weight of traffic are the same ones that comes up for repair time after time. Same pot holes in the same spot all the time. I would like to know how much does it cost the taxpayer each year to have these meaningless patches done against the cost of having the road resurfaced properly with guarantee from the contractor for a given time period of let's say 10 years. We might be in for a surprise if we were to find out how much of our tax dollar is handed to contractors for doing next to nothing. Bring back the parish councils is what i say. At least then we had some roads.
God bless my brother."

Editors Note:
The MP for the constituency is Krystal Lee. The potholes have now been patched. We hope they do not reappear after the next shower of rain.
