Police apprehending a civilian. |
In the video below, I believe that the police went too far in trying to apprehend this man. The police who fell on the ground probably injured his back and will only find out years later. Engaging in this physical confrontation with this man could have resulted in the officer being injured. A leg broken by a baton would have made the job easier and that would put the officers at less risk. Officers trained in karate could use their skills effectively to disable the man.
While we do not want the JCF members to use unnecessary force, we cannot afford them to be injured or to lose their lives while they are doing the people's work.
We need to step up the penalties for assaulting or attempting to assault the police and also refusing to cooperate with an officer when you are told you are under arrest.
Many Jamaicans are crying out for law and order in the land! When will we have it?
This is just evidence of the lack of specialized training in the JCF. Proper training in hand to hand combat and take down techniques would have quickly put the suspect in a submission hold. Three police officers and they could not control the situation. What if the suspect decided to switch from defensive mode and went on the offensive?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to the excessive number of police shooting was based on the fact they do not know how else to apprehend a suspect.
So true. I saw the same issue. The man did not even know why he was being arrested. He wasn't read his rights, etc. One big dolly house.
DeleteThat's ridiculous.
ReplyDelete3 police can't restrain one man?
They require real training. The police we have on our roads are incompetent.
So sad to have so many officers restraing one man no proper training👹
ReplyDeleteWhy when the police try to arrest some one they are fighting off the police
ReplyDeleteThe cops are weaklings . Suspend INDECOM for a year and let the security forces deal terrorist groups decisively once and for all with out any apologies
ReplyDeleteThough the Officers here seem 'soft: and 'ill-equpped' to handcuff this man, I think they could have if they used more force. However, the Police is between a rock and a hard place - building community trust and exercising brute force / rough tactics. I think he surprised them, video going on, crowd etc they wanted to do it right and really not rough him up. They clearly thought he'd co-operate until the resistance tun up.
ReplyDeleteClearly we have lost respect for the law. It should never ever have gotten to this!
ReplyDeletePolice dem need some food! Dem weak!! Drink too much free rum!
