Press Release from ODPEM:

A light magnitude 4.2 earthquake was felt in of Jamaica today Tuesday November 28 at 1:27 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Head of the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies, Mona, Kevin  Tankoo says the epicentre of the tremor was recorded 10 kilometres south of Hope Bay, Portland. 


General Advice to the Public:

Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management is reminding the public that during an earthquake it is important to stay calm. 

If you are inside a building, get under a sturdy desk, cover your head and hold on.

If you are outdoors, go to an open area away from trees, buildings, utility poles and wires.

Not sure what is meant by sturdy desk and by the way, what outdoors have NO trees or buildings....?

We just do the best we can with what we have. There is no perfect situation, but try not to panic because you can die from a heart attack. I do believe that there are more coming.

I think those instructions from ODPEM are dated. Who is this new manager? what's his background and training? A list of degrees? Or is he politically appointed? A friend of the ruling government?
