TRANSPORT AUTHORTIY PROSECUTES 1,800 OPERATORS DURING OPERATION STREAMLINE IN SEPTEMBER 2023

Press Release from the Transport Authority -  November 06, 2023:

Ralson Smith
The Transport Authority has prosecuted over 1,800 operators for various transportation breaches, resulting in approximately $7M in Court fines during Operation Streamline which was launched in September 2023.

Ralston Smith, Managing Director says the operation was to restore order in the KMTR and other parts of the country, through strategic operational activities, undertaken through collaboration with the Jamaica Constabulary Force and Justices of the Peace.

To date, 437 operations have been undertaken in major townships island-wide to increase the usage of terminal facilities, reduce congestion and improve order.

In the meantime, the Authority is intensifying “Operation Streamline” to increase order in the city and townships as it seeks to provide a safe, reliable and orderly transportation sector.

Accordingly, the Authority is reminding operators to provide transportation service that conforms to their licences as failure to do so may result in prosecution, seizure, suspension or revocation of their road licences.

  1. Congratulations to the Transport Authority. I do hope it continues to have the necessary political support and has the 'legs' to continue until the acceptable "taximan behaviour" becomes second-nature. This will, however require a minimum of 3 years of sustained action to manifest. I have seen many brilliant starts like this in past only to dissipate shortly thereafter.

  5. Prosecuting them provides taxes for the government's coffers. Removing them from our streets and our drivers and commuters will breathe a sigh of relief.
