We live in the 'madern' age' where entertainment means fights and the throwing of bottles. There might be the firing of a few gunshots, resulting in the creation of some duppies!
Amazingly, this is what people pay their money for as entertainment. We blame politicians for everything in this country, yet you would not see politicians fighting and behaving like that.
If I were in charge, the promoter who organized the show highlighted in the video below would lose his license for a long time.
How many persons will add a comment to this blog stating that promoters who cannot manage entertainers and crowds at entertainment events should have their licences suspended for at least five years?
Where there is no order in a society, disorder rules, and crime becomes a way of life.

Until someone sues these promotors, it will be things as usual. The irony is that music is no longer part of the entertainment package ( Dem yah artists CANNOT even sing), and it is all about jump up and make moise. A so de Foundation Fren say
ReplyDeleteThe law need to change when it comes on to entertainment, if the promoter can't control the artist on stage, then he should not be a promoter. Promoters need to do new contracts for the artist when they are going to perform
ReplyDeleteThis was very entertaining!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. It’s time we stand for something because we are falling and failing badly which is b coming the new norm.
ReplyDeleteSTING is the only event that has a fight at every staging, it should be permanently banned.
ReplyDeleteMorning Reflections on Dancehall Evolution
ReplyDeleteHAS STING RESORTED TO STAGING ACTS OF VIOLENCE TO ATTRACT ATTENTION?
Contemplating the contemporary state of the Dancehall genre, I find myself yearning for a narrative that echoes the original essence of the artistry witnessed on the Sting stage. Back in the '80s, my pride swelled as we, (Michael Tomlinson and Lois Grant) through Innercity Promotions, contributed to the development of Dancehall without foreseeing the current trajectory. The vision was never one of discord or the explicit vulgarity that now permeates the scene.
Our intention, in those days, was to elevate the music to new heights, countering the narratives some radio stations had in mind. Witnessing the hurriedly orchestrated Boxing Day Dancehall street parade leaves me questioning the genesis of such an idea. It's disheartening to see a deviation from our initial plans.
More disconcerting is the realization that there are more misguided individuals in influential positions than we could have ever imagined. Regrettably, these are the leaders we have elected, continuing to cast our votes for them each election cycle. The shame lies not just with those we've chosen to lead but with ourselves as well.
Decent, educated individuals find it challenging to align with these poor excuses for leaders. The stark truth remains that the direction Dancehall has taken deviates far from the path we initially envisioned, and the leadership landscape reflects a disheartening reality.
It has been widely felt among academians even that being crass, coarse and vulgar a part a wi culcha. They tried to bury in our mindsets that's our roots. Stage showing like those disturbs the mental equilibrium of our people. Everytime some hawtist open dem mout dem shoulda invoke the noise abatement act. Dem sign deal wid di devil and romance every evil known to man. Badmanism and gun toting a dem base lyrics from them base minds. Wha mi a duh deh suh. Musicians nah call it out fi what it is. Prime time given to some to glorify and endorse their artist expressions and some try to politically correct. Vultures n mongers who dem say nyam anything would vomit from their food offerings.
ReplyDeleteWhen we 4get our history we are likely to repeat it. Reggae/Rock Steady/Dance Hall culture co-existed for sometime without this overt violence. Over the years Sting captured the worst of artists and audiences and in partnership they chose violence as their desired form of entrrtainment.
ReplyDeleteThis hellish partnership spread to other promotions across Jamaica but moreso Europe and North America. There was a time Jamaican promoters could not find venues in those parts of the world that would rent for Jamaican artists. Are we going back to that time?
Will those responsible for leadership twiddle and fiddle while this false version of dancehall created by a small number of miscreants continues to re-define and distort our culture?
For far long we have being selling the wrong things to our people. So it have now becomes ingrained in the mind's of our society. So they have sold bad ideas, like the guns, crack & cocaine, sex and city and worst of all corruption. It stinks from top to bottom. That is why we are so damn cursed. Can you imagine to get a work in Jamaica, you have to know somebody. Qualifications hardly make any sense again. Why are still at the end of the road? Why can't we wake up and realized the mess that we are in and clean up what we have messed up.
