Many people are shocked at the behaviour of Jamaicans at the recent KSAMC swearing-in of our councillors, Deputy Mayor and Mayor in Kingston recently. I have added a video I got which captured some of the scenes.
While we pay attention to the despicable Trumpian behaviour of the pot bottom of society, we need to look at the environment and the situation which played an important role in this behaviour.
Over the years we have dropped many colonial things which should be dropped, but there are some things about our colonial days which we should keep. Our colonial masters recognized the importance of their institutions and the democratic process although skewed to suit their interests. They understood the importance of pomp and pageantry at official functions. We have bhuturized many things which have neither any European, African, Indian, Chinese, Lebanese or any of our ancestors' cultures.
The swearing-in of the councillors, Mayor and Deputy Mayor should be an official function where we put on our best outfits and behaviour to witness another historic event. This should have been held in the Ward Theatre and councillors would be allocated a specific number of guests to attend. This should be a function with uniform groups putting on a display in front of the Ward Theatre, followed by the ceremony and a short entertainment segment with outstanding performers from the city. This could be followed by the KSAMC Dinner and Ball at a later date. This dinner and ball would be in aid of the homeless.
If our leaders create the wrong ambience for a function, it will attract the wrong people, and we can expect bhutu behaviour.
Some people must be laughing at us and saying, "We told you that they were not ready to be independent". I wonder what our Caribbean brothers and sisters are saying. They must be wondering, "Free movement of Jamaicans into our country? No sah!"

We shouldn't complain, when we sit on our backsides and behave as if we are better than politics. Then allow people to chose for us. They can behave anyway they want, because we allow it.I will not complain, because a lot of our people, who came from that, environment, are pontificating, and projecting themselves as being better than those people. So they don't, vote, because they believe that are not a part of the system. So, they shouldn't cry, because they allowed it to happen. They do what they do best.THAT IS THEIR REALITY.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised they r not going to changeπ
ReplyDeleteππΎ♀️ππΎ♀️ππΎ♀️so all this taking place while the swearing in was in session, what a disgrace, then they say the children doesn't have any behavior and manners, they shouldn't have allowed any supporters to turn up in colours,it should have been a formal settings, smh
ReplyDeleteThis councilors swearing in event of a disorder at the KSAMC has solidified the fact that our democracy has degenerated into a "chaosacracy".
ReplyDeleteNow a criminals paradise has symbolized by name brand slackness nastiness, noise and corruption.
On the eve of the anticipated release of one of our favourite world boss artistes by the Privy Council a justiciable criminals' paradise would have been cemented.
I am prepared to vote for a new Prime Minister THE WORLD BOSS even if he creates a new party The World BOSS PARTY (WBP).
The present Minister of Finance announced "reggae music 24 hours a day".
Presi soon to be released is a businessman and expert in Garrison Security so I expect a more functional criminals
Paradise where you can leave your "windows and doors open.
If anyone violates "The Order" you know how that may go Missa Derby, straight "Dirt" settings.
Hanging and other forms of executions for murder, rape and violators of THE ORDER would ensue.
All ethical Dons/criminals to be released from "Pris Hotels" for their varying posts.
Is Jamaica on the way to being the Novelty of a World Class Criminals' Paradise transformed from A FAKE DEMOCRACY?.
Or are we just fortunate to having a Ringside view of History unfolding before our very eyes in this part of a New World Order.
One borderless Order in the Caribbean as Haitian politics and economics is being resolved.
*Ringside view of History unfolding*

This ‘right people’, ‘wrong people’, top of the barrel, bottom of the barrel concept held in Jamaica, by Jamaicans concerning each other, has got to go! That is one of the colonial practices that you as a leading journalist Sir should advocate that it must end now!
ReplyDeleteSuch a divisive concept, served our colonial masters well! But since 1962 we are an island that’s supposed to be, ‘out of many, one people’! We should now be striving to adopt and embrace a single set of behavioural values that all of us express! We cannot any longer have one set of values for uptown, and another set of values for downtown, and give whoever a pass when passes need to be given!
In addition, we all know, that no party activist from any color will get up and disrupt a mayoral event, unless the order was given! So this is a leadership issue!
Some high ranking party leader gave the order to disrupt that mayoral event! This means that we do have leaders who are willing to encourage chaos because there is money and or power to begin from exploiting chaos!
If we allow this disruption without a passionate response from as many opinion leaders like yourself, then I guarantee that we are all going to weep as we watch the disruption of a Prime Ministerial swearing in, yet future! Mr. journalist I beg you do your job as a gatekeeper and dig deep and find out who allowed or perhaps even ordered this mayoral event to be disrupted!
If we do not put aside this divisive concept, we are going to end up like Rwanda did in the mid 90s: Hutus killing Tutsies. Except ours will be Black people killing Brown people. JLP killing PNP people. Wealthy killing poor people killing wealthy people en masse!
Great idea about the ceremony at the Ward, however the former Mayor started the restoration without completing it..... So my hopes are very high that Mayor Swaby will at last bring the Grand Dame back to the old glory! Such beautiful memories of performing in there so many of us have!!!
ReplyDeletegood day Mr. Derby,
ReplyDeleteRecognition of institutions have nothing to do with colonialism. Your postering seams quite neocolonial. Nations from Africai were the origins of the first civilised institutions. Their institutional frameworks, to a great extent were copied by the Hellenic dynasties (Greek and Romans), which is now what permeates modern geopolitical western societies today. Just that your statement needed a historical "fixup".
Thank you for your point about properly organising the event is well said and agreed.
As media practitioner, however you lack fairness, all of what you see here stems from a lack of proper leadership on the part of the JLP supporters who are claimed winners in the recent LG election but are acting like losers.
Our PM can stop all this nonsense, if he wishes, but opts not to do so. He then is setting the tone for the General Election which is constitutional due in less than a year. This is a major concern. Don't think for a moment that Jamaica can't go back to the eras of the 70's and 80's as far as police violence is concerned. We are yet to have that truth and reconciliation that many have spoken about. Please take heed to the seed our leaders are sowing.
The media practitioners need to stop being so naive. Why do you think there is so much burning out of people in their homes?
How does one explain the recent uptick in shootings and murders across the island in the wake of the resent LG election. Please do your research.
