Normally I stay away from matters like this, but with the significant number of posts that I see daily on social media about this matter, I feel compelled to comment. I hope that my supporters don't crucify me.
It seems to me that the biggest fight is not over Bob Marley's property but over his popularity. Yes, his popularity. Many are seeking to hitchhike on the popular Bob Marley bus. Probably I should too. First, I got to know Rita Marley when we performed in a National Pantomime. I also assisted with the Rita Marley Foundation. I also got to know other members of the I-Trees. I use to visit Judy at home and work with her young children. I saw Bob Marley perform at the UWI. Rita Marley is a really cool person and she is not into the hype. Many have credited the Marley family's success after Bob's death with her leadership. The hot topic, Cindy Breakspeare has been left out. I know her also and I sat on the JCDC board with her.
Those who made the Bob Marley movie, put up the capital to do so. It is a movie and not a documentary. We are free to comment on a private initiative, but to go to the extent where we become bitter and decide that we do not want to have anything to do with the move is plain childish.
If we want another Bob Marley movie, I will throw the first dollar. Those who want the alternative Bob Marley movie can throw in their millions of dollars to produce another movie. In the meantime, the world is enjoying the movie while we continue to have our quarrels over the personal life of Bob Marley.
We still need to do a documentary on the life of Bob Marley. Who can and will do it?
Landing of Boats from Haiti
I am getting concerns from residents about boats landing in Hope Bay Portland and they believe that these boats are carrying criminals who have escaped from prison in Haiti. All citizens have a responsibility to report such illegal landings or else we will all pay dearly for those criminals who might enter the island and team up with our homegrown criminals.

Persons Preying on others Sexually
I just got information about another Principal who has been preying on others sexually. Based on reports I am getting, it seems that these sexual predators are quite active and they are being protected. There are sexual deviants around us who are in politics, in business and in our communities. We must talk about matters like this so people can better deal with these predators. Some people use their deviant practices for political and economic gains. Once again we cannot keep quiet about these things. We must report them.
Sate of the Mandeville Market
Someone sent me a picture of the garbage in front of the Mandeville market. I am unable to locate that picture. I would appreciate it if the person could send me the pictures again. There is a new municipal corporation so let's ensure that something is done to deal with the situation.
Closing the Mouths of Councillors
Let me remind those in the political parties that the role of the councillor is not to protect the MP and the Party when both are not doing what is right. When the councillor loses his seat for non-performance, the same party will suffer. Councillors need to work aggressively to serve the needs of their division and not waste time protecting the political future of a non-performing political big wig.

ReplyDeleteThe movie omitted one crucial element in Bob's life! Bob had left music and returned to the country to farm. Neville Willoughby noticed his absence and went to find him. He found him riding a donkey coming from his farm and it was that conversation that made Bob return to Kingston and started recording again.
