The following is a Press Release from the JPS
(Kingston, April 16, 2024) JPS has expressed sorrow at the reported electrocution of firefighters, which took place in Greenwich Town in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, April 16. This is believed to be due to contact with illegal connections.
This persistent lawlessness in our country is unacceptable and we must all work together to put an end to it. It requires a collaborative approach by national stakeholders and renewed emphasis on enforcement of the legal framework. We are deeply saddened that our dedicated first responders have had to encounter illegal activity in this manner. The Company will carry out an investigation into the reported incident.

Our leaders, our lawmakers are lawless. What do we expect of the citizens?
ReplyDeleteWhat is expected is everyone taking responsibility for their own actions. I can't jump off a roof & claim that I'm doing it because my leaders do the same.
DeleteIs that your excuse for being lawless? If it is, it's a lame one.
DeleteWe can't use moral suasion when people are breaking the law. Until persons are arrested for stealing it will not stop. If there are no consequences, how do we expect to end electricity theft?
ReplyDeleteThe authorities need to not let people get away with consuming a commodity without paying for it. This sends a bad message. If it is even to insist that persons pay a flat fee, if they are too poor to pay the commercial rate. The government /JPS could require that they pay, say, $2000 per month and offer to subsidise the rest. This must be done under the condition that beneficiaries do not consume more than a stated amount of electricity per month, and if they do, then they pay for that excess. People who steal electricity tend to be the ones who use it in excess with A/C running all day, in some cases. It needs to stop.
