Breaking News - Some Board Members Break Ranks with St. James High School Board Chairman Chapa John!

Christopher McCurdy - St. James High School Board Chairman

Joseph Williams - St. James High, Principal

I have been reporting on the challenges at Mona High School for the past week and St. James High School. These challenges will negatively affect the children. Some Board members have resigned and at least one parent has removed their child from Mona High School. I noticed that some media houses have ignored the challenges of what is happening at Mona High School and also that a principal received several stabs at Quickstep Preparatory School in St. Mary.

Mona High is suffering from serious administration challenges which led to the resignation of some Board members including the Chair. St.James High School is seeing a major push to bring down the Principal, Joseph Williams. Recently there was a stormy meeting of the St. James High Board and it is felt that some members may resign. I received a report stating that some board members left the board meeting as a show of protest. The meeting was being chaired by its Chairman Christopher McCurdy known on social media as Chappa John.

Some St. James Hgh School board members are disgruntled. They claim they are not aware of media reports purporting to be coming from the board.

The Ministry of Education needs to monitor all schools more. Mona High and St. James High School are now facing serious challenges. These challenges could embarrass the Ministry of Education and the Government.

Editor's Note:
I am fascinated by the fact that St. James High has had such significant attention in the media. Could it be because it is a sexy matter and some people love the subject matter? What do you think?

  1. The St. James High School incident will attract the attention of the media because there is an agenda to promote a particular sexual agenda and to simultaneously defeat the principal. However, as a society, we must decide on what is important to student learning, as well as appropriate behavior in the context of school and schooling. It can not be free for all.
It's interesting that when a child is killed by another or almost beaten to death, there is never an outpouring as we are seeing in the issue of the kissing girls. We also forget that one of the girls was removed from another school and placed at St. James High School. Her removal from that school was certainly not for good behavior. Is she a transporter of what caused the current expulsion? Is this the kind of behavior we want our children to emulate without even understanding that all behaviors are not acceptable in all environments and that every behavior has consequences?

  2. My criticism of the principal and the school board for that matter is based upon the seemingly lack of empathy for the students. We all must reflect on our teenage years when we all did something stupid of which upon reflection, we’re not proud.

  3. Too much politricks running these institutions , I realize that everything leads right back to orange and green, so we won't have change if we can't look nor work beyond these colours. The noisest set of people in this country makes noise for the wrong things. A teacher been stab at a school is reason to make noise two girls kissing is reason to make noise. People like myself is as if we don't have a voice because we can't shout as loud as the noisey people so we are not hear, people who lie and scheme seems to get more and sometimes all the attention..The school system has broken down because of first parents are not setting good examples for their children before sending them out , teachers backs are against the wall because of bully parents, the ministry back is against the wall because they allow schools administrators to do as they please with most thing because they're not willing or maybe capable to treat them the they feel they should. Because when you can visit a school and say but the ministry said so and so ,and they can stop you in your tracks say ministry can say whatever is not them Herr everyday doing this and that, it means there's no respect for them. I could go on but I'll leave it here for now. Mr Derby you need a lot of help with the work you're doing, I pray God's guidance and protection for you.

  5. It's difficult to form an opinion without knowing what the issues with the boards of governors and the principals are.

  6. The blame ultimately falls on the MOEY. These two incidents are among hundreds, if not thousands of such incidents occurring within the walls of schools right across the island annually. The boards are aware, the ministry is also aware.
Way too long have schools been allowed to continue like this. There needs to be a policy change and not just making an example of those cases now in the public's view. Real change is needed in terms of a general policy, guiding the conduct of students and protocols to follow when such incidents take place on or off the schools' compounds, as long as the students are wearing their uniforms. This rush to remove board members is just to appease the public and to appear as if something is being done, but the root of the bad tree is firmly rooted. Well grounded. Tearing off a few branches will not fix a rotten tree. The tree needs some serious work and care. The MOEY has to take its job more seriously. They are there to hold the schools accountable and to ensure they function as they should. Scholls cannot be left alone to do as they please.

  7. Can we come to a mutual agreement and stop playing the blame game? Just imagine when we come to the table with good solutions to resolve conflicts and not to tear each other down. Remember, if we get rid of all the previous members and replace with new ones and the problem is still in the school. Then it is obvious that the problem was not solve. When will we understand simple code of ethics 🤔.
