The monument in Heroes Park for the Eventide Home deaths. |
Forty-four years ago approximately 150 elderly persons lost their lives in the Eventide Home fire. From all indications, the fire was deliberately set. Those who set that fire had an objective. The blood of these elderly persons who helped to build this country has been consumed by fire but their spirit continues to haunt this nation. Some of those murderers are probably still alive. They need to confess. They probably have passed on their murderous spirit to their children who continue with their tradition as they spill the blood of innocent people for their own personal gains.
It is said that this is the worst tragedy since our independence in 1962!
As we continue to fight for power and glory, let us remember the Eventide Home Fire, and, the Orange Street Fire. Judgement continues on the land.
I saw a post written by veteran journalist Tony Patel who has given me permission to post it here:

I was one of the first persons to arrive with a camera at the Eventide Home after the fire and remained there the whole day. I captured images with the smoke still rising from the ruins , the charred remains of humans, the bent and twisted bed frames, and the recovery and removal of the bodies. I will never forget the smell of burnt flesh that permeated the atmosphere.
Three or four 1 gallon cans which had contained kerosene oil were found at the front and back of the building. It was determined that the contents of those containers was used to start the fire. The few survivors all spoke of smelling kerosene oil just before the fire started.
By the time the formal inquiry was held, all of that evidence was not mentioned.
Anyone who wishes to have a better understanding of the fire, needs to examine what was happening for about 3 weeks prior to the date of the fire.
The Budget bebate was going on and the order of the presenters was suddenly changed for the Opposition leader to speak before the PM.
Seaga decided to speak from the Pegasus Hotel, not in Gordon House. The date he chose was 20th MAY.
The fire was the morning of 20th MAY!!
The fire was the news for several days and no one paid any attention to what Seaga had to say.
If you doubt me, go to the Gleaner archives.
