JPS has come under immense fire this month over the dramatic increase in electricity bills. The OUR approved a tariff structure for JPSCo to bill its customers. Did JPSCo do anything wrong, or is something wrong with the agreement between JPSCo and the Government's entity the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR)? What do you think? Add your comments below.

Lack of leadership and stupidity put the consumer in a mess. Whose pocket is getting the benefit? Can the contract be made public? Who signd on the dotted lines? WE NEED TO SEE THE CONTRACT AND THE PEOPLE WHO SIGNED
ReplyDeleteJPS is a fraud on the people of Jamaica. The governments over time have assisted in the continuation of this fraud. OUR should have been funded directly by the government from funds it collected from JPS.
ReplyDeleteVery informative video. The utility companies appear to have someone on the board of the O.U.R. It's like a gang, more like the mafia working against the people of Jamaica.
ReplyDeleteWell said both are working together mafias indeed, JPS and the government, if you check well you will find out who have shared I JPS
ReplyDeleteVIZINIRI. It's a "3 card" game to rob the people & fatten both GOJ & JPS! Is Nigel on an haitus? Can such a Sweetheart deal be made without a CARING"Give-away Father?
DeleteIn JpS vs the people of Jamaica, the people will always lose.
ReplyDeleteI know JPS, like other businesses need to make a profit - but, a profit at all costs?
ReplyDeleteI perceive ( I could be wrong) JPS is the only company willing or able to supply us with electricity this they have been supplying us for so long through various permutations, whilst screwing us over.
Some recurring, permanent problems exist and JPS the Government, OUR seem turn away from dealing with it. a blind eye. One such is the stealing of electricity. The other is the exaggerated bills of some of us and the drawn out frustrating process to get a fair outcome or feel a sense of justice.
What's really going on?
From where I sit with increasing electricity bills assaulting my monthly pension, JPS is a tiefing monopoly. But, am I missing something?
What does the contract say? The contract cannot be between GoJ and JPS alone.
We the people need to be 'schooled' ( as it looks like it's too complicated for us to understand this we are kept in the dark)- pun intended.
What is the real remit of the OUR?
How have they lived up to their mandate since they were formed?
Are we being fair to JPS?
Is JPS being made a scapegoat?
What is JPS, the GoJ and OUR not telling us?
Come on, talk with us please, not to us.
The recent surge in electricity bills has understandably caused frustration among JPS customers. While JPSCo appears to be operating within the approved tariff structure set by the OUR, the dramatic increase suggests potential issues with the agreement itself. The OUR's role in protecting consumers seems to have fallen short, as the approved rates have led to unexpected financial burdens. This situation highlights the need for more transparent and consumer-friendly policies in utility regulation. Perhaps it's time to reassess the agreement between JPSCo and OUR, focusing on balancing the company's operational needs with affordable and predictable pricing for customers. Improved communication from both JPS and OUR regarding rate changes and their impacts could also help alleviate public concerns and restore trust.
ReplyDeleteOne word comes to mind when I think or hear the name JPS THEIF I know business is in the business of making money but it shouldn’t be at the expense of high way robbery when I use the service I expect to pay but when no one is at home how can the bill still be the same
ReplyDeletePetrol has been steadily increasing. Its now nearing $1000 per gallon yet there is no complaint from anyone including ministers although the price of fuel affects the price of everything as everything including people must be transported. Of course I understand that ministers dont pay for their transportation but they are supposed to represent our interests.
ReplyDeleteMr D perhaps you could explore this : Since JPS is that bad why do successive governments keep renewing the contract?
If I remembered correctly JPS use to charge us every other month for electricity. Now it seems like they are charging us two times in one month 🤔. So who is standing up for the people of Jamaica? Our as overthrow our respect. They seem to be more like a popcorn machine and am not sure if we really have a government that really cares about their people's. These authorities knows exactly what the problems is with JPS and the people. So why can't they fixed the problem once and for all? No they are making millions if not billions. So they are too fat to get up and do what is right. So they passed through the communities and see the problems and then will come and tell the paying customer's to tell who is throwing up wire's. So they want to set up innocent people. While the problem worsen everyday. It is like a cat and mouse thing. When will JPS get it right?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever noticed! There is about five to seven business in Jamaica or more. Yet JPS is the only electricity company in Jamaica and the the NWC is the only company in Jamaica. So why the government of Jamaica do something about this ongoing problems. There was something about another telephone company coming on board and all of a sudden nothing more is heard. What is really wrong with Jamaica. Is that we have no Clear leadership with good backbone or is that all their backbone are broken and needs to be fixed. or is it all about there own agenda 🤔?
