What The Hell is Going On?

There is No Stop Sign to Deaths on Our Roads

Four Persons lost their lives in a motor vehicle incident along the Braco main road in Trelawny today. The carnage on our roads continues. I have repeated this ad nauseam, "Increasing traffic fines will not stop the carnage on our roads". It is not speeding that causes accidents but people who cause accidents. If people don't fear the death penalty then you believe they will fear higher fines?

Those who believe that higher fines will reduce the carnage on our roads are possibly in the same category as those who cause the carnage on the roads.

Only persons with mental challenges will run up tickets totalling in the hundreds. We need to remove them from our roads the same way we need to find a way to remove all illegal gunslingers from society. This action will improve the situation on our roads and nothing else. After a certain amount of tickets, you cancel their driver's licence permanently!

You can appeal the decision after several years. To drive again, you would have to be trained by a certified driving inspector, and complete a written test.

Statement From Egeton Newman

President of TODDS sent a statement on Sunday afternoon, August 4, 2024, commenting on that terrible accident in Trelawny.

Men critically Injured After Contact With JPSCo Wires

These Officers are too near to this down pole.

You would have heard the news by now that some people got injured when they came into contact with JPSCo powerlines on the ground in Clarendon.

We must learn to take appropriate action as community persons to protect the lives our our fellow human beings. When we see a down power line we know how to block roads so just use whatever is available to block the road. Call the police immediately and they must respond immediately because this is an emergency. The police should secure the area and contact the JPS immediately. The JPS should de-energize the lines immediately until work is completed and there is no danger to civilians.

You should never touch a person who is entangled with electrical wires. You could be endangering your own life!

Reports of JPSCo Contractors Collecting Funds to Re-energize JPSCo Mains

Under no condition should you pay anyone claiming to be JPSCo contractors to work on the system so that you can have electricity. You could end up paying dearly for that action. For example, the lines could be energized when there are challenges in other areas which need to be dealt with.  this could create major challenges for other property owners.

No Electricity?

I you have no electricity in your area, inform the JPSCo and make a report to Bark Di Trute at this link: CLICK HERE TO REPORT ELECTRICITY PROBLEMS. Please share this blog and information with persons in other areas who are still without electricity and encourage them to make these reports.

  1. Tips = To Insure Prompt Service.
Giving a TIP after the man dem reconnect you is fair transaction.

Ask the Americans whom we constantly try to emulate.

    It's called TIPS not corruption.

  3. Increasing fines appropriately is an effective measure to address the carnage on the roads. Of course other measures are necessary to compliment the fines.
The problem is enforcement and corruption. Traffic police are still extorting motorists and many times to the nation's detriment.
The penalties must be tiered. Logically. So if a motorist commits a traffic offense and the initial fine is $7000 then he can't keep amassing $7000 fines. So at what point will the fine increase and other measures used along with the fines? That's the tricky part for some. It depends on the offense and its impact or implications. Higher fines, prison time, suspension of licence, community service, mandatory driver's education, etc. are options.
You can always increase the fines, enact laws, whatever you like, but if there is no consistent enforcement, It is in vain. I have heard of motorists with over a million dollars in tickets. This shows poor management. There is no way someone should have so many unpaid tickets and still be on the roads or even get that many tickets in a calendar year and still be out there.
The problem is not the fines. It is the same indiscipline that caused the problem to begin with, but this time on the part of the system.

  4. I entirely agree with you. Appropriate fines can significantly help to to reduce traffic crashes and hence injury. But, as usual, we just increased the fines but not (efficient and effective) enforcement and so the carnage continues. Where are the cameras? Why arn't they everywhere? Enforcement also means cooperation between the relevant goverment agencies (TAJ, Passport office etc) and the insurance companies.
Motorist run scared in USA. UK etc. because of effective enforcement!!!!
Its an equation that must be balanced.... Fines vs Enforcement.

  5. When they eliminate the.corrupt practice of selling driver's licences, there will be less idiots on the roads! There will be more educated and competent drivers and so a reduction in the number of fatalities!
