Flooding in the West of Jamaica
This video was sent to me by persons who said it shows flooding in the John's Hall area of Montego Bay on Saturday, August 31. See more pictures below:
Disturbance 2
As of 2352 EST, Weather Disturbance 2 was located at 12°44'N and 57°41'W, approximately 1,989 km from Jamaica. There is a 10% chance it will develop further in the next two days and a 40% chance of further development within seven days. Wind speeds in the surrounding area are currently around 16 km per hour. Parts of the Caribbean are already experiencing rainfall.
Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl in July, which heavily impacted Jamaica's south coast, it is crucial to start preparing now to mitigate potential disruptions, such as power outages. We should consider importing solar phone chargers and small solar refrigerators. Additionally, making solar dryers would allow us to extend the shelf life of fruits like bananas, apples, and jackfruit. These dryers could also be used to dry spices like ginger and turmeric. Historically, people used flat concrete areas, known as "barbecues," to dry items such as pimento and ginger.
Older generations might remember how to prepare and store salted pork and beef for extended periods. Peppers can also be preserved in Wincarnis wine. Please share any ideas you have on how to extend the shelf life of other goods.
