Transporters and commuters alike are grateful for some eleven route allocations in the KMTR now being offered to Hackney operators who choose to convert to route.
All such routes originate either in downtown Kingston or Half way tree. There has been no lobby or recognition given to Cross Roads as an integral area of despatch.
For decades the routes leading from Cross Roads to Children's Hospital, National Stadium to include Swallowfield to Excelsior school have been serviced by Hackney in the absence of any provision for these commuters.
The same is true for the Cross Roads to Vineyard Town via South Camp Road area.
Citing the tremendous challenges that workers, students and not least of all parents bringing their sick children to the hospital over the years have had, the proposal is being made to the powers that be, that consideration be given to these two link points that have NEVER been better serviced than by the taxis plying these routes.
Much of this service includes 'doorstep' drops for the elderly, disabled, parents with luggage and children who cannot afford individual charter arrangements.
The Cross Roads Taxi Owners & Operators Association which accommodates numerous taxis in it's own space grapples with these commuting challenges daily.
We are therefore seeking an opportunity for lobby in this regard as the process of reconstruction happens over the next few months.
