Residents Appreciate Refurbished Post Office

Residents are proud of their Postal Agency at Kintyre in St. Andrew. The pensioners and others who use this postal agency are smiling these days.

JPS Needs To Fix This Pole

The video above was taken at the corner of 20 Verene Avenue, Kingston 10, which is off Cassia Park Avenue.

Notice that the bottom of this pole is deteriorating and should be changed immediately. The spider web of wires emanating from this pole dazzles the eyes. This site reflects the situation across the island. One can just imagine the number of houses and vehicles residents would lose if the pole came tumbling down and pulling down the maze of wires from the various homes. This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Ministry of Education to Increase Contact Hours for Teaching Mathematics?

Does the Education Ministry officials believe that students will improve their performance in mathematics if they have more contact time with teachers? That alone will not work. We need to teach mathematics creatively, allowing youngsters to have fun. They need to fall in love with the subject.

Let them learn how to read their utility metres and estimate their bills. Their parents will love them for that and both parents and children will understand the importance of the subject. Let them have fun creating their businesses and working out their mark-ups so they can make a profit. Take them to the market and let them learn how to weigh things and calculate the prices.

Let them measure their classrooms and draw the floor plan. Let them work out the floor space. Boys for example learn better when they have activities to do. We hate sitting in a classroom setting for longer hours. We could end up turning off more of the youngsters.

Other Matters

Unconfirmed report of shootings in Cassava Piece. Two dead and four are injured by drive-by shooting. There is a strong presence of soldiers and police in the area now.

  1. Agree extending contact hours is not a solution, is how mathematics been taught for years why most don't get it, my child says the classes are boring tired of sitting down and just writing, let them bring tape measurements and measure their desk and chair ect boys and girls , trying to learn something that doesn't interest you is a drag
