The Killings Continue

Barbara Gayle

The Christian Bible says God rested on the seventh day when he was creating the earth, but mankind has no resting day from the killings. I cannot keep track of the killings because they are too numerous. Over 1400 murders annually, for over forty years now I believe. How many people have killed others and are walking amongst us? How many murderers have been caught each year? How many murderers have paid the ultimate price with their lives? Murdering and getting away with it has become the national pastime for many.

Its Barbara Gayle veteran journalist today, tomorrow it could be you, I, or both of us. The people of Jamaica are fast asleep!

This is a place where the wutless artistes dem big up di gun and di badness, the journalists feature them in the media, and disc jockeys loud up dem music on the radio. If we glorify badness and put it on a pedestal, then we just have to take what we get - BADNESS, WICKEDNESS, and MURDERS!

Press Release From The KSAMC:

Thieves Need to Learn to Leave the Farmers' Property Alone

Poor people spend years raising animals to earn a living to take care of their families, and this wutless boy jus come tek wey goat so. That is why sometimes these rural folks are forced to take justice into their own hands.

I wonder who they sell this goat to? This goat which has young kids. This is why we need a national ID for all. This would mean that all who buy and sell agricultural items would have to show a receipt from a farmer with their ID written on the receipt.

Anyone caught stealing agricultural items from a community should be brought to the community court the same day and tried. If convicted, they should serve at least 15 years of hard labour working to maintain themselves while incarcerated.

More Killings?

I just received another report that a man coming from the airport in a taxi was killed in the region of the Jamaica Flour Mills in Kingston.

The taxi had numerous bullet holes.

Dr. Barbara Carby is appealing to us To Protect Our Snakes!

Dr Barbara Carby is appealing to Jamaicans to stop killing the snakes. She points out that these snakes are not dangerous and are endangered. "No Jamaican snake is dangerous to humans, so there is no need to kill them," she said.

This was in response to residents in Long Bay Portland chopping a snake which was seen in the parish.

NEPA says, "The agency wishes to remind the public that the Jamaican boa is a protected species under the Wildlife Protection Act (1945). Therefore, it is illegal to harm, capture, kill or have a Jamaican boa in one's possession. Persons found in possession of or any by-product of the Jamaican yellow snake can be prosecuted under the Wild Life Protection Act and can be imprisoned for up to 12 months or fined $100,000.

    1. The legal system is in shambles and it needs to be addressed forthrightly.
The nation's laws are not structured properly. Above, it is said that a person "can be imprisoned for up to 12 months or fined $100, 000." This speaks to animal cruelty, in this case the Jamaican Boa. This is a prime example. Up to 12 months is not specific enough. So it's either 12 months or 12 months considering other factors such as a repeat offense, etc. The fine should also be coupled with the prison sentence and be incremental depending on the situation. The laws are too vague. That's not how laws are written. Is it the minimum sentence? Then they should state the maximum. Is it the maximum? Then it should be a combination of both time and fine.
If the laws were written properly then no lawyer could get them off. They would have to serve the time and or serve the time.
The problem us, the laws provide room and loopholes through which they escape justice.

  2. You speak of media 'bigging up' murderers etc please be reminded that a certain murderer was on the political platform of a recent Party Conference!! Big concert coming up at the National Stadium!! We are not serious about dealing with crime in this country!!

  3. I am really disheartened by the murder of Ms. Gayle, her contribution will be sorely missed. I extend condolences to her immediate family and her colleagues.
Her murder, however, appears to be a personal vendetta. As a society, we need to address our 'short fuse', anger management needs to be taught in school from an early age. We need to learn that apologizing is not a sign of weakness but demonstrates a level maturity, personal awareness and strength.
Lord Have Mercy upon us as individuals and as a Nation.

  4. How many more senior citizens have to be brutally and heartlessly murdered before the government intervenes? It seems Jamaicans' lives are not important.
The death penalty which is still on the books should be put to use‐-- good use too. Death by firing squad? Sounds perfect. The gun is the murder weapon of choice. As they say: if they live by the gun, they should die by the gun.
I say put the death penalty back to work for murderers of children, women, the disabled and the elderly. Forty years to life for other murders. If a child murders a child, depending on the age, he/she should be tried as an adult. If the child is below 14 years then juvenile penitentiary until 18, when he/she will transfer to an adult facility for a minimum of 15 years depending on the manner in which the crime was committed.
People are taking killing for a joke now, as there are no real penalties. Can you blame them?

  5. Crime Industry growing rapidly

We have run out of crime reduction/eliminating ideas .

A crime is any behaviour that attracts a fine or imprisonment.
Most Jamaicans would therefore be criminals by that definition.

This message must be sent so people will police themselves including the police, security companies and JDF themselves.

Crime has now morphed into a significant industry.
    It is lucrative,
    attractive and fast growing.

The sector financed by taxpayers is the ligitimate sector trying to play catchup with the illigitimate "dutty criminal" sector.

13000 JCf members,6000 JDF 2000 corectional officers,2000 attorneys registered with GLC to practice,
    Ministers Civil servants,cars,
    arms,clothing,
food ,11prisons with a capacity of 4200 serving as corporate offices for Criminal Executive Officers(CEOs DONs,Fryers etc).
    40,000 security guards.

7 prisons for adults,3 for juveniles and one for remand.

Prison occupancy now appr 3750.There is space for appr 520 to 600 crammed.

Police needs to move to at least 30,000 in order to impact all Jamaica.

With the limited resources that exist.
Deepen the intelligence networks to every nook and cranny.

Find a way to execute guilty murderers rapidly.Gang leaders of murderous gangs once arrested a collective murder charge is slapped.
Those cases must be on an express court system.
