Prime Minister's Budget Speech 2025

This is the election year 2025, and Prime Minister Andrew Holness made his presentation on Thursday, March 20. The PM seemed ready for battle with the PNP. Although this election will be a peaceful battle, it will be deadly.

There was confusion with the caption on the TVJ screen during the PM's budget speech.

What does 'MT' stand for? It is the first time I have seen that abbreviation. I believe the national title should come first. The PM should therefore be addressed as The Most Honourable, Dr Andrew Holness, ON, PC, MP. The doctorate is just a degree from a university, and that should not come before the national title.

The caption was changed subsequently to Dr The Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, PC, MP.

This is the year of goodies and also changes. Add your comments as to what you think about the Prime Minister's budget presentations.

  2. I liked the way he connected the destruction of the economy in the 1990s when more than 44,000 businesses were destroyed, to the economic malaise we have inherited today. He also reminded us of the then Contractor General's concern about the sweetheart deal from which Dehring, Bunting and Golding benefitted - one of the clearest evidence of the transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich that is often spoken about.

I also like the initiatives under ASPIRE. The changes in vehicle registration and fitness is a step in the right direction.

  3. It was a thoughtful presentation and I like the investment for children to age 18. A child with nothing is more likely to to produce and amount to nothing. It's done in Canada and is called the learning bond. Parents can contribute and the govt matches or they can opt for just the govts contribution. I would much rather vote for the person with the plans and ideas than a feel good pledge.
