"We have protected our people and grown our economy. We have proven that good governance and strong leadership make a difference." -Prime Minister Holness
Amidst global economic challenges, Prime Minister Andrew Holness said Jamaica has emerged as a model of resilience and recovery, recording a 50% reduction in our national poverty rate between 2021 and 2023.
Prime Minister Holness addressed the nation on the historic milestone, underscoring the significance of this progress in a time of international hardship.
"We live in a world where poverty is rising in many regions, where post-pandemic recovery has stalled, and where inflation continues to stretch household incomes. Yet here in Jamaica, we have made real progress. We have protected our people and grown our economy. We have proven that good governance and strong leadership make a difference," the Prime Minister noted.Prime Minister Holness also credited the coordinated efforts of government ministries, agencies, and community organizations who have worked to expand training, improve access to jobs, and widen the social safety network.
"This is a collective achievement. It belongs to the hard-working people of Jamaica who showed up, leaned in, and believed that better was possible. Our responsibility now is to protect these gains, deepen our efforts, and ensure that no one is left behind," said the Prime Minister.

Can you imagine if we didn't have COVID and other global events to contend with where we would be right now as a nation? For someone who used to vote PNP, I hope Jamaicans decide to put their country and their children's wellbeing 1st over tribal politics. That’s what I decided to do. It is abundantly clear that the JLP is the best choice for Jamaica right now.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could shake this person's hand and say, I am glad you have woken up, and it's even better that you have seen the light.
ReplyDeleteVote for POLICY'S that will elevate jamaica.
And forget about the color of the shirt that you are wearing.
This government in my opinion has put jamaica and the jamaican people right at the top of the list.
He has vision and for the very 1st time in hour history we have a government that is working for Jamaica.
Jamaica is the 2nd poorest country in the Caribbean with a per capita GDP of $US6709 next door to our brothers and sisters in Haiti #1 with a per capita GDP of $US 1700 the poorest country in the Caribbean.
ReplyDeleteThe wealthiest Caricom country is Barbados with a per Capita GDP of approximately $US23,000.Trinidad about 4th with US$20,000.
Yes Jamaica has a 50% reduction in the national poverty rate sounds great.
Will Jamaica now be #1,the wealthiest nation in the Caribbean with a per capita GDP of US$50,000 or more to warrant meaningful celebrations.
Jamaica and it's leaders wake up and live, lots of work to do not just talk or juggling statistics creatively.Work,Work, work and more work.
