Di People Dem Who Mek Street Signs Cannot Spell

Another sign with incorrect spelling. Please keep them coming in. WhatsApp to (876) 816-5261.

This sign is on the way to St. Thomas. I have been told that it should be PAMPHRET and not POMFRET.

People are upset with me for bringing these matters to the attention of our leaders. At the rate we are going with these signs, we will soon be in the Guinness Book of Records as the country with the most road signs with incorrect spelling.

  2. Wow....what laziness. Couldn't they bother to look up the correct spelling? What if someone decides to spell your name the way they want to? Should their ignorance be justified?

  3. Could be garbage in garbage out - the instructions must come from somewhere. Usually when you ask sign makers to create something they give you a dummy to proof read. So…. Head of the stream?

  4. It’s a national disgrace. Makes Jamaica’s literacy rate look low and dismal.

  6. Vernon, misspelling of names in Jamaica is nothing new. Jamaicans often seem a bit too casual when it comes to consulting the dictionary. My grandmother’s name was correctly spelled “Schleifer,” but I’ve also seen it written as “Schleiphor,” “Sleeper,” and even “Sliper.” So there you go.
