These Knox College Students Are An Embarrassment - Put Them Somewhere Else!

Knox Students in a street brawl

We spend significant time talking about politicians and politics, and we pay very little attention to family life and how we are growing up and socializing our children in madern Jamaica. When I went to Knox College in Spalding, Jamaica, the worst offence one could commit would be to walk on the lawn. Now take a look at the video below, which shows Knox College students involved in a brawl.

The state and our school administrator must put in place a code of conduct for all students. Students who fail to comply with the code should incur serious penalties. Students who accumulate a certain number of demerits because of anti-social  behaviour, should not be given a high school diploma.

This incident at Knox College must be thoroughly investigated, and actions taken to deal with the offenders. If nothing is done, then we will end up with many of these violent students in the police force, in the media, in politics, and even lecturing at a university. The sad thing is that the dutty, nasty behaviour might still be in them while holding these public offices.

  1. I'm glad to know that murders are trending down, but we must now pay attention to addressing the culture of our society. If this is not done, then murders will continue to be high. We must aggressively pursue a resocialization and behaviour modification programme, ideally in schools when you literally have a captured audience. The earlier in the school system you start, the better. Alternatively, or, in addition, we could begin to look seriously at a suggestion made years ago by Andrew Holness when he was minister of education that we have time-out facilities for problem students and engage them in a behaviour modification programme while they continue to receive their education.

At the same time, we can seek to enhance the parenting skills of Jamaican parents to help in stemming the number of maladaptive individuals that they churn out.

    1. I have put forward the idea of having a programme with similar objectives to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Programme which I was once the head of. I have seen that programme change many young people. When I was involved, we had about 10,000 students involved in over 80 schools. You don't hear about the programme again. We could call the new programme The Jamaica Youth Award Programme. I need people to help me push this idea. Thanks.

  2. Is there a Cadet Unit at this school? If , why not? A large Cadet unit will focus many of the students on discipline.
Have we taken into account the increasing size of our student population and are we bracing ourselves for the challenge of instilling appropriate values and attitudes in our youths? Being ashamed of our respective alma mater because it did not happen in our time is too late. We must plan for the changed society and incoming student body in our school system in Jamaica.
