A Number of Observer Missions Confirmed For Jamaica's General Elections.

KINGSTON, Jamaica; Three Observer Missions from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Organization of American States (OAS) and Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE) have so far committed to observe the September 3 General Election. The OAS mission will be headed by the former Prime Minister of St. Lucia, Dr. Kenny Anthony.

The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) has commenced the printing of ballot papers with the names of the candidates nominated on Monday, August 18. Following the final reconciliation of the candidates nominated, 63 candidates were each nominated for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People’s National Party (PNP), 43 for the Jamaica Progressive Party (JPP), seven for the United Independents’ Congress and eight persons were nominated as independent candidates. A list of the nominated candidates is below. Additionally, six candidates were confirmed as duly nominated for the by-elections in Chancery Hall, Olympic Gardens and Denham Town, three each for the JLP and the PNP.

The EOJ has also advanced preparations with the printing of voters’ lists, selection and placement of Election Day Workers and distribution of supplies.

Voting for the Special Services, that is, Election Day Workers, Police and Military electors, will take place on Friday, August 29.
