Electoral Commission and CAFFE at Logger-heads

Press Release From The Electoral Commission

KINGSTON, Jamaica; The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ), met and considered a statement by Citizens Action for Free & Fair Elections (CAFFE), implying that at 21 percent of polling stations, voters were turned away and not allowed to vote despite being in the line at the 5:00 p.m. close of polls on September 3, 2025.

As the Director of Elections has previously done in the media, the ECJ absolutely rejects this assertion as being false as it tarnishes the result of the poll and the ECJ’s reputation.

No such report was made by any Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) official, political party or accredited International Observer. Despite a demand for proof of its assertion, CAFFE has failed to provide such proof.

The ECJ affirms its commitment to conducting free and fair elections and is satisfied with the result of the election exercise conducted on September 3, 2025.

The ECJ is grateful to the political parties for their contribution to the peaceful election.

Consequently, the ECJ expects and requires that CAFFE makes a complete withdrawal of the statement that was placed in the public domain.

Editor

This matter should be dealt with by CAFFE and the leaders of the Electoral Office of Jamaica sitting down and having a meeting. Anything that fuels controversy at this time is unnecessary.

  1. Are the EOJ and ECJ different bodies? My ignorance. Today is the 11th Sept. 8 days after the election. We're just hearing that 21% polling stns voters were turned away? How many voters? Really?

    1. When we refer to the EOJ, we are thinking of the office which organises the elections, but the organisation is called the ECJ because it is the Electoral Commission of Jamaica.

  2. I thought we could trust CAFE but it has become one of the rumors munger. I am so disappointed with them. I suppose they wanted the PNP to win like other news media. They should report what they saw immediately and don't wait until a week later.
    SHAME ON YOU ALL.
