Today I went to get a police report downtown. It was a pleasant experience. The staff members were pleasant and I was out of that place in about half an hour. The impression I had previously was that the department was a place to camp out for a day.
There is one thing I want the commissioner to look at, and that is the online software, which is used to capture the applicant's information which has to be submitted in order to get your police record. The online form is not user-friendly. I have said it time and time again, when we develop software, we should get a mixture of expert users and novices to test the system before we go live.
After I entered my information on the form and selected an appointment day, when the form was printed, there was no appointment date. They had to remove the form from the system for me to enter the information again. The system should allow me to log in using my TRN and I should have been able to save the form if I did not complete entering the information.
There is far more I could comment on, such as the layout and the language, but I expect the JCF to review this online form used to apply for your police record. The commissioner is a man who is into technology.
