Political Campaign Materials To Be Removed

Kingston, Jamaica - The Political Ombudsman is reminding all political parties, candidates, campaign managers, agents, and supporters of their legal responsibility to remove campaign-related advertisements and paraphernalia following the September 3, 2025 Elections.

All campaign materials, including posters, banners, billboards, murals, painted slogans, flags, streamers, stickers, placards, ribbons, and other forms of election advertising must be removed from public and private property where campaign materials were placed no later than Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in keeping with the legal requirement for removal within 14 days of Election Day.

The Political Ombudsman commends the active participation of all stakeholders in the democratic process and now urges full compliance with the law to restore public and private spaces across Jamaica.

This responsibility is established under the Town and Country Planning Act, the Control of Advertisements Regulations (1978), the Advertisements Regulation Act, and other statutory provisions that prohibit unauthorized advertising and littering. Failure to comply may result in fines, prosecution, recovery of clean-up costs, or forfeiture of campaign deposits. Enforcement authorities are also empowered to remove offending materials at the expense of those responsible.

Best Practices for Safe and Responsible Removal

All Parties are advised to:

1.     Organize removal crews by constituency/division and keep records of cleared areas.

2.     Use safe methods and proper equipment; avoid damage to poles, trees, and structures.

3.     Dispose of materials responsibly by separating posters, streamers, and rigid frames for waste collection.

4.     Restore affected surfaces, including removing adhesives or repainting with the owner’s consent.

5.     Document completion with photos and dates for accountability.

Members of the public are encouraged to assist in restoring order by reporting campaign materials left in place after September 17, 2025. Reports may be submitted through the following channels:

•        Phone: 876-754-5845

•        Online complaints portal: www.ecj.com.jm

•        Email: ecjombudsman@eoj.com.jm

•        In person: Office of the Political Ombudsman, 46 Duke Street, Kingston

The Political Ombudsman calls on all political stakeholders to demonstrate respect for the law and the public by ensuring a swift and responsible clean-up. A clean post-election environment not only reflects good governance but also shows respect for communities across Jamaica.
